San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey's Pro Bowl snub didn't go unnoticed by fans. His name was a rather shocking omission from the initial NFC roster.

The NFL has corrected that mistake. According to ESPN's Field Yates, McCaffrey has been named to the Pro Bowl as a replacement for Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders.

McCaffrey, a mid-season trade addition by the 49ers, finished the 2022 season with an impressive 1,880 all-purpose yards and 13 total touchdowns. He rushed for 746 yards and six touchdowns, adding 52 receptions for 464 yards and four touchdowns following the October 20 move to San Francisco.

The Carolina Panthers made McCaffrey the No. 8 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. This is the running back's second Pro Bowl selection (2019).

McCaffrey becomes the seventh 49ers player to be named to the Pro Bowl. The selections of defensive end Nick Bosa, safety Talanoa Hufanga, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, tight end George Kittle, linebacker Fred Warner, and tackle Trent Williams were announced in December. All but Hufanga were named starters.

McCaffrey was initially named as an alternate. The 49ers' other alternates are center Jake Brendel, kicker Robbie Gould, return specialist/wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, cornerback Charvarius Ward, and punter Mitch Wishnowsky.

Should the 49ers be worried about Christian McCaffrey's workload?

By Al Sacco

It's not an exaggeration to say that RB Christian McCaffrey is coming off one of the best individual seasons in the history of the San Francisco 49ers. In his first full year in red and gold, McCaffrey led the NFL in rushing yards (1,459), total yards (2,023) and total touchdowns (21) on his way to becoming Offensive Player of the Year. His yards on the ground were the fourth most ever for a Niners running back and his 21 touchdowns trailed only WR Jerry Rice's team record of 23, which the Hall of Famer accomplished in just 12 games in 1987. McCaffrey was also prolific in the passing game, hauling in 67 receptions and often providing a safety net for QB Brock Purdy. Because McCaffrey has meant so much to Kyle Shanahan's scheme, it's easy to see why the offense
