Everyone was under the assumption that San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead suffered his foot injury during Week 2's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Kyle Shanahan gave that impression last week when asked about the injury. He was asked if Armstead suffered the injury against the Seahawks.

"Yeah, it was bothering him," the coach responded.

It turns out the injury started before the start of the regular season. Armstead told NBC Sports Bay Area that he is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. It began before Week 1's contest against the Chicago Bears and got worse against Seattle.

Armstead did not practice in the week leading to tonight's game against the Denver Broncos and was listed as "questionable" on Friday's game status report.

Armstead tested his foot on the Empower Field at Mile High field before kickoff to see if he could play. The defender couldn't and was among the 49ers' six inactive players for the Week 3 contest. Sitting out the matchup snapped a 73-game streak for Armstead, including the playoffs, which started with the 2018 season opener.

The 1-2 49ers are traveling back to the Santa Clara area tonight and will begin preparing for next Monday night's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

49ers allowing Arik Armstead to leave was a 'tough' decision

By David Bonilla
12 hrs

Arik Armstead was the longest-tenured member of the San Francisco 49ers, joining the team as a first-round draft pick two years before head coach Kyle Shanahan's tenure began. Despite the team's efforts to retain him by negotiating a restructured contract, they ultimately released the veteran defensive lineman when no agreement was reached. "It was real tough," Shanahan said this week about the situation. "I mean, we've been with Arik since we've been here and I know he was here a couple years before us, so it wasn't something we really wanted to happen. It's one of the tough things when trying to keep a team together, and just where it goes with the salary cap and stuff." Betting on himself, Armstead wanted to test free agency to see if anyone would be willing

Offensive lineman Jon Feliciano and linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles recently re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers on one-year deals. OverTheCap.com has revealed the contract information for both deals. Feliciano signed a contract that includes the minimum base salary for a player with eight accrued seasons of experience—$1.21 million. Flannigan-Fowles' base salary is slightly higher, at about $1.77 million. Feliciano is scheduled to count about $2.28 million against the 2024 salary cap, while Flannigan-Fowles is slated to consume almost $1.3 million. The linebacker's reduced impact is due to the 49ers using a portion of up to $1.45 million of salary that won't count against the salary cap for veteran players. The 49ers are paying Feliciano a

49ers' John Lynch provides Talanoa Hufanga update, discusses plan at safety

By David Bonilla
Mar 25

The San Francisco 49ers have been actively exploring options at safety this offseason, both in free agency and during their draft evaluations. A recent report from the San Francisco Chronicle indicated that All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga's starting position is not guaranteed for the upcoming season as he recovers from a torn ACL sustained on November 19, 2023. During a media session at the NFL owners meetings on Monday, general manager John Lynch shared an update on Hufanga's progress, noting that offseason roster additions could still occur. "Talanoa is doing really well. That's the great news," Lynch said of his young rehabbing safety. "He's rehabbing extremely well,
