Elijah Mitchell dealt with several injuries last season, his first in the NFL. Unfortunately, the 2022 season didn't start much better for him. Mitchell exited the game against the Chicago Bears in the first half due to what the team announced as a knee injury. He did not return.
The 49ers aren't sure about the status of their starting running back. A reporter asked head coach Kyle Shanahan if they felt the injury could be long-term.
"I'm not sure," Shanahan responded. "I know they said they thought he had a chance to come back, and then they ruled him out about a quarter later, so I'm not sure yet."
We'll likely learn more about Mitchell's status when Shanahan provides injury updates on Monday afternoon.
Jeff Wilson replaced Mitchell in the lineup, finishing the game with only 22 rushing yards on nine carries. San Francisco combined for a respectable 176 rushing yards in the game. However, that came from a mix of several players.
Quarterback Trey Lance led the team with 54 rushing yards on 13 carries in the 19-10 defeat, while wide receiver
Deebo Samuel finished with 52 rushing yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
