Rapoport: 49ers willing to hold onto Jimmy Garoppolo until cut-down day

Jimmy Garoppolo isn't practicing, but he is throwing next to his soon-to-be former San Francisco 49ers teammates. He looks healthy, too, according to one reporter.
"
I watched Jimmy Garoppolo make about 25 full-tilt throws to a junior staffer on a side field during the 49ers' training-camp practice Friday," wrote Tim Kawakami of The Athletic, "and there's no question he's close to 100 percent healed after his March shoulder surgery and one of the top 32 QBs in the league right now. Maybe it's a shorter list than 32."
The quarterback is cleared to do whatever he needs within the restrictions of his rehabilitation from that March 8 procedure. He has full access to the 49ers facilities and personnel as he prepares for the next chapter in his NFL journey.

Jimmy's doing a really good job, kind of building his stamina in the throwing program that was prescribed all along, and working out really strongly and aggressively," general manager John Lynch said last week.
The 49ers hope to trade Garoppolo. They just need to find a trade partner. Right now, the options are limited. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network goes as far as to say that there are "no clear trade partners" right now, even though Garoppolo looks like he's nearing a complete recovery.
"The 49ers have been very clear about saying that they plan to trade him," Rapoport said on Sunday. "Obviously, not going to be with the team this coming season. My understanding right now is there is no clear trade partner for Jimmy Garoppolo. Look around the NFL. Think of who can take on that salary. Think of who needs a starting quarterback. There isn't any clear option.
"Maybe one quarterback either doesn't develop like everyone thinks or maybe there is an injury. Then one [trade situation] might develop. But as of now, a little bit of a waiting game.
"So how long are the 49ers willing to wait? From my understanding, they're willing to wait all the way to cut-down day. And in fact, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for the 49ers to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo now because what if another quarterback gets hurt, or what if there is some sort of need?
"It sounds like they're going to hold onto him as long as possible just to see if any trade market develops before eventually, and likely, moving on from him."
