San Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel finally agreed to an extension with the organization, getting a three-year, $71.55 million deal worth up to $73.5 million with $58.1 million guaranteed.
The new deal now keeps Samuel with the 49ers through 2025, as he still has another year remaining on his rookie deal.
How does Samuel's deal rank against other receivers who earned extensions this offseason, especially the other fourth-year receivers who received deals as well?
Fellow fourth-year receivers A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf, and Terry McLaurin all signed extensions with their respective teams this offseason, leaving Deebo Samuel as the last among them to be signed, along with Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Diontae Johnson.
Here are the contract details for their contracts:
A.J Brown: four years, $100 million, $57 million guaranteed, $23.2 million signing bonus, and $40 million guaranteed at signing.
Terry McLaurin: three years, $71 million, $53.2 million guaranteed, $28 million signing bonus, and $34.6 million guaranteed at signing.
D.K. Metcalf: three years, $72 million, $58.2 million guaranteed, $30 million signing bonus, and $31 million guaranteed at signing.
Samuel's average annual value ranked third of the four receivers, as his $23.85 million-per-year is lower than D.K. Metcalf's $24 million-per-year and A.J. Brown's $25 million-per-year.
However, in the most important metric, guaranteed money, Samuel ranked second amongst the bunch, as his $58.1 million guaranteed ranked just behind Metcalf's $58.2 million guaranteed.
Samuel's signing bonus and guaranteed-at-signing numbers are currently unknown.
Currently, Samuel's average annual value of $23.85 million and $58.1 million guaranteed both rank ninth amongst receivers in the NFL.

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, it's common for the rumor mill to start churning, especially with players who are actively seeking a new contract. It was just two short years ago that WR Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers prior to draft day, only for cooler heads to prevail and eventually agree to a new deal.
Now, it's WR Brandon Aiyuk's turn to try and get paid and rumors surfaced over the weekend that he too would request to be dealt. While that report was quickly shot down by his agent, there's still a lot of discussion about Aiyuk's future and if other teams will come calling on draft night.

It's evident that the San Francisco 49ers engaged in long-term financial planning. Much discussion has centered around the feasibility of the team committing significant financial resources to two wide receivers, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Some skeptics question the wisdom of such heavy investment in a single position, especially considering that the 49ers handed Samuel a substantial three-year extension merely two years ago.
Adding complexity to this debate is the impending contract extension for quarterback Brock Purdy, positioning him to become the highest-paid player on the team. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has unfollowed the San Francisco 49ers on Instagram. Is it time for the fanbase to panic? Probably not. NFL players have made similar moves in comparable contract negotiation situations, such as Deebo Samuel's actions in 2022. However, in Samuel's case, the offseason drama escalated to the point that he requested a trade.
So far, no such request has been made by Aiyuk or his representatives—that we know of.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will be present today as the team reports for the start of its offseason program. Purdy was a little early, as he hosted a youth football camp over the weekend.
Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group spoke to the 49ers quarterback during the event and asked him about one of his teammates, Brandon Aiyuk. The star wide receiver is currently in contract extension negotiations with the 49ers, and the team has emphasized keeping him around for the foreseeable future as an offseason priority.
