"We've got a chance at a Super Bowl": Jimmy Garoppolo feeling fortunate to still be with 49ers

Jimmy Garoppolo was headed out the door. His bags were packed, and his mail was forwarded. At least, in his mind, they were. After all, he wasn't sure where he was headed yet. Instead of saying goodbye to Santa Clara, the San Francisco 49ers, and his teammates, his career took an unexpected U-turn. He opted to remain with the Niners, his home over the last four-and-a-half seasons. For the 49ers, they lucked out. The worst-case scenario happened on Sunday. Trey Lance suffered a broken ankle and will undergo season-ending surgery today. Keeping Garoppolo on the roster suddenly doesn't seem as foolish as some wanted everyone to believe. San Francisco remains a championship contender, even after losing its starting quarterback. Not every team can overcome such a

The San Francisco 49ers feel fortunate right now. After spending all offseason trying to get rid of Jimmy Garoppolo and not finding a trade partner, the team signed the quarterback to a restructured one-year deal to serve as Trey Lance's backup. The Niners likely hoped a trade partner would emerge later in the season—a destination Garoppolo would have approved, voiding his no-trade clause. San Francisco getting stuck with Garoppolo turned out to be a blessing. Lance broke his ankle five quarters into the season and was lost for the season. Enter Garoppolo; the one-time castoff turned savior. It's like 2021 again. The veteran quarterback received all the practice reps this week and will make his first start of the season on Sunday night against

Last week, following a 27-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said that being under center for the 49ers offense after missing the offseason and preseason was "like riding a bike." On Sunday, during a mistake-filled 11-10 loss to the Denver Broncos that saw the offense commit three turnovers and a safety while converting just one of ten third downs, that bike at times looked like it had two flat tires. In his first start since stepping back into the quarterback spot after a season-ending injury to Trey Lance, Garoppolo finished 18-of-29 with 211 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also stepped out of the end

The San Francisco 49ers announced that quarterback Trey Lance underwent successful surgery on Monday. The second-year player suffered what was reported as a broken ankle during the first quarter of Sunday's 27-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks, ending his 2022 season. "San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance underwent successful surgery on his injured right ankle this morning, an injury that occurred in yesterday's game versus the Seattle Seahawks," the 49ers said in a statement. The team also provided more details on the injury itself. "Surgery was performed at Stanford Hospital and repaired two injuries to Lance's ankle, a fibula fracture, and ligament disruption," the 49ers announced. "Lance will start the rehab process, and head team physician
