The Good and Not So Good from Week 1 of 49ers OTAs

May 24, 2022 at 6:20 PM--

SANTA CLARA -- Here's who stood during today's OTA. Keep in mind, the 49ers mostly did 7-on-7 team drills -- no pass rush -- and when they did 11-on-11s, they didn't wear helmets. THE GOOD 1. Quarterback Trey Lance. Completed 17 of 20 passes, which is impressive, but also to be expected from a ...Continue reading

Drake Jackson's usage might vary week to week; Young 49ers CBs have an opportunity vs. Packers

Maybe soon, Drake Jackson will become the complementary bookend to Nick Bosa that the San Francisco 49ers envisioned for Dee Ford. That was the hope when the team used its first selection in this year's draft, a second-round pick, on the defensive end out of USC. DeMeco Ryans is in his second year as the 49ers' defensive coordinator. He is working to ensure young players like Jackson are prepared for the rigors of an NFL season. He also wants to put those players in the best position to succeed. Their success is the 49ers' success, after all. For now, it looks like the 49ers have Samson Ebukam penciled in as the starter opposite Bosa. That role should eventually land with Jackson. "With Drake, he's coming along," Ryans told reporters after Wednesday's practice.

The 49ers open the 2022 preseason with a home game at Levi's Stadium against the Green Bay Packers. It marks the sixth time the two clubs have met in the preseason and the first meeting since 2016. San Francisco returns multiple key players from last season's team that reached the NFC Championship, including All-Pros WR Deebo Samuel and T Trent Williams, along with Pro Bowlers DL Nick Bosa, FB Kyle Juszczyk, and TE George Kittle. DL Arik Armstead and LB Fred Warner look to lead a defense that added CB Charvarius Ward, DL Kemoko Turay, DL Kerry Hyder Jr., LB Oren Burks, and S George Odum, as the team also brought in WR Ray-Ray McCloud III on offense, among others. Through the 2022 NFL Draft, the Niners brought in DL Drake

Trent Williams spoke with reporters after Monday's training camp practice. With his San Francisco 49ers teammate, Deebo Samuel, having recently signed a massive contract extension, the conversation naturally included questions about the star wide receiver. Before practice, head coach Kyle Shanahan praised Samuel's influence on the team. "My favorite thing about Deebo is how much he inspires people," Shanahan told reporters. "And he inspires me more than almost any player I've watched on the field, the way he runs the ball, whether you're handing it to him, whether you're throwing it to him, whether he's catching it on a kick. And these aren't things you

Kyle Shanahan: Jimmy Garoppolo working toward next situation, 49ers not limiting him

Wednesday was an interesting sight at San Francisco 49ers practice. While you might think all of the attention would be on the field with the team practicing, many fans were interested in one player who has not been practicing—Jimmy Garoppolo. The quarterback was even seen interacting with teammates and fans. That shows you what Garoppolo has meant to the 49ers and the fanbase over the years. The Garoppolo chapter is nearing an end. Second-year quarterback Trey Lance has taken over as the team's starting quarterback. San Francisco has been trying to trade Garoppolo all offseason. Of course, the veteran undergoing shoulder surgery on March 8 complicated things, ending trade talks at the time. As the 49ers await a trade situation to develop, Garoppolo remains
