The spotlight was on quarterback Trey Lance heading into Friday night's preseason opener for the San Francisco 49ers, but it was a slew of newcomers that stole the show in a 28-21 win over the Green Bay Packers. Not that Lance didn't deliver in his limited opportunities. Lance played on two possessions in the game and led the 49ers to 10 first quarter points,

Preseason games don't count, but they do matter. Especially for players trying to make the team, and for a team with three young quarterbacks who need reps. That was the case for the San Francisco 49ers Friday night, as they hosted the Green Bay Packers. The good news is that all three signal-callers looked good. There was a lot to like (and a few things to dislike) for 49ers fans. I saw my fair share of good and bad. Here are my 21 quick observations from the 49ers' preseason win over the Packers. Defensive tackle Aaron Donald didn't hide his feelings or mince words after being asked about the Los Angeles Rams' division rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. "I dislike the Niners. No love at all towards them guys. I really dislike them, and we'll see them twice this year." Donald's feelings are understandable. After all, the Niners have gotten the best of his Rams in six consecutive regular-season matchups. However, Los Angeles finally snapped the losing streak, beating San

What rubbed 49ers safety Jimmie Ward the wrong way about the Los Angeles Rams last season to the point where he's already looking to face off against them on the field? Ward spoke about that subject on Sunday, as he was one of a handful of players to talk with local and national media during and after 49ers practice. Also speaking with reporters was defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, who provided a number of thoughts on a few defensive players who are competing for roster spots and playing time. For a rundown of what Ward said Sunday as well as some quotes from Ryans, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's thoughts on his squabble with linebacker Fred Warner, and much more, check out this version of 49ers Notebook.
