The Miami Dolphins have requested to interview San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel for their vacant head coaching job, per NFL Media's Tom Pelissero.

McDaniel has been with the 49ers since Kyle Shanahan became the head coach in 2017. He started his time in Santa Clara as the run-game coordinator but was promoted to offensive coordinator on January 18, 2021.

Before his time with the 49ers, McDaniel worked with Shanahan in Houston, Washington, Cleveland, and Atlanta. He served as an offensive assistant with the Texans, an offensive assistant and receivers coach in Washington, and a receivers coach with the Browns. He was an offensive assistant under Shanahan, then an offensive coordinator, with the Falcons.

While Shanahan is the 49ers' game-day play-caller, McDaniel plays a big part in creating each week's game plan.
