The San Francisco 49ers seemingly emerged from Sunday's 23-7 victory over the Houston Texans relatively unscathed. In fact, head coach Kyle Shanahan had only two injury updates during his post-game press conference.

"[Linebacker] Marcell Harris got evaluated for a stinger," Shanahan revealed. "He did return, though. [Tackle] Trent Williams had an elbow sprain. He returned also."

That was it.

Cornerback Josh Norman was seen on the sideline late in the game. That, however, was just a game decision. After Norman's pass interference, the 49ers opted to replace him with Dontae Johnson late in the game.

Of course, as fans are well aware, an almost clean bill of health for the team after a game doesn't mean it is out of the woods just yet. Players will report back to the facility on Monday morning, and other issues could be reported.

A good example of that occurring in the past is quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo not being mentioned in Shanahan's post-game injury updates following the Week 16 loss to the Tennessee Titans. It wasn't until four days later that Shanahan revealed Garoppolo had suffered the thumb injury that kept him out of Sunday's game against the Texans.

There was also Elijah Mitchell's situation following Week 13. The rookie running back's concussion was reported, but his knee injury wasn't revealed until three days later.

Shanahan will speak with reporters on Monday at 3:30 p.m. PT.

A questionable rumor surfaced on Wednesday regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers' interest in San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein reported that the AFC team was seemingly confident they could pull off a trade for Aiyuk. However, the credibility of this report comes into question due to the assertion that the Steelers believe they could acquire Aiyuk at a bargain price, possibly in exchange for a second-round draft pick and a late-round selection. Brock Purdy hopes Kyle Shanahan makes addition to 49ers playbook

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw for a franchise-record 4,280 yards last season, leading the team to the Super Bowl and earning his first Pro Bowl selection. He held onto the football 39 times on the ground, rushing for 144 yards and scoring twice. This marked a significant improvement over his rookie 2022 campaign when he had 22 carries for 13 yards and a score. Purdy further displayed his athleticism during the 49ers' playoff game against the Detroit Lions last season, helping engineer a comeback victory while rushing for 48 yards on five carries. On Tuesday morning, Purdy joined the "Pat McAfee Show," acknowledging that he believes he can contribute more rushing yards if called upon. However, that decision rests with head coach Kyle Shanahan,

Despite initial reports, two draft prospects who were set to visit the San Francisco 49ers ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft ultimately did not meet with the team. Matt Barrows of The Athletic revealed that former USC wide receiver Brenden Rice and former Oregon safety Jamal Hill didn't end up visiting the Bay Area organization. Barrows wrote, "Meanwhile, a report in March indicated that USC receiver Brenden Rice, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, would visit the 49ers, but he didn't end up coming, according to two league sources." ESPN analyst on Brandon Aiyuk: 49ers shouldn't pay two receivers top dollar

By David Bonilla
Apr 9

ESPN analyst Matt Miller understands the perspective of San Francisco 49ers fans. After all, he has been a fan of the team since he was a kid. Seeing any of your favorite players leave and put on another uniform is tough. It's also difficult to pay everyone, and Miller knows that. It's not a formula for successful roster building, including paying two wide receivers top dollar. The 49ers are trying to negotiate a contract extension with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The team invested heavily in another receiver, Deebo Samuel, just two years ago. Is allowing each of them to consume a significant chunk of the salary cap feasible for a team that hopes to continue being competitive and win Super Bowls? "I have to separate the fan part of my brain, who
