49ers keeping Jimmy Garoppolo while starting Trey Lance wouldn't surprise Peter King

Will the San Francisco 49ers be able to offload quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to another team? They've certainly expressed a desire to do so. However, Garoppolo remains on the roster after undergoing shoulder surgery on March 8, which sent his stock tumbling. No one seems eager to trade for an injured quarterback who can't throw until late next month, at the earliest. The 49ers have repeatedly stated they are willing to hold onto Garoppolo and his hefty salary if they can't trade him. They aren't going to give him away for free by releasing him. That might mean a team like the division rival Seattle Seahawks scooping him up. Garoppolo is undoubtedly an upgrade over anyone currently in place for the spiraling Seahawks. San Francisco is unlikely to do their NFC West nemesis any

Beat writer calls idea of 49ers keeping Jimmy Garoppolo 'absurd'

The San Francisco 49ers insist that holding onto Jimmy Garoppolo this season is possible. The team has unsuccessfully tried to trade the veteran quarterback without success. Of course, Garoppolo undergoing shoulder surgery on March 8 didn't help matters. One 49ers beat writer, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, doesn't believe the team can realistically hold onto Garoppolo and his hefty $24.2 million base salary. After all, last year's No. 3 overall pick, Trey Lance, is expected to be the starting quarterback in 2022. Devoting a hefty chunk of this year's salary cap to a backup doesn't seem financially responsible. This is assuming that Lance remains on track to be the 49ers' starter. "If the 49ers do not view Garoppolo as the starter,

49ers legend Bryant Young offers this advice to Trey Lance

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance is preparing to enter his second NFL season, and likely his first as a full-time starter. He had two starts during his rookie campaign, but only because veteran Jimmy Garoppolo was injured. 49ers legend Bryant Young played on the defensive side of the football for 14 years, all with San Francisco. Young frustrated opposing quarterbacks during his illustrious career, bringing them down a team-record 89.5 times. What advice does the soon-to-be Hall of Fame defender have for the 49ers' 22-year-old quarterback? "He's a big kid," Young said Wednesday on KNBR's Murph & Mac show. "I got a chance to meet him at the 49ers Foundation event earlier in the year. Not only is he a big, athletic kid with a

49ers rookie Danny Gray prepared for Trey Lance after practicing with "legend" in offseason

San Francisco 49ers rookie wideout Danny Gray spoke with the media for the first time since his draft interview, as he prepared for the 49ers' rookie minicamp, which is slated to begin on Friday. Gray, who was selected with the last pick in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 105th overall, is a player with electrifying straight-line speed, which was confirmed with his 4.33 40-yard dash at the combine. However, Gray's talents aren't limited to just his speed; he works well with the ball in his hands and can be physical after the catch, despite his relatively slight 186-pound frame. When addressing his skillset, Gray acknowledged the biggest development over his
