Jimmy Garoppolo will lead the San Francisco 49ers into Lumen Field on Sunday and try to get his team its first victory there since that memorable Week 17 division-winning battle in 2019. The Seattle Seahawks won each of the three games since and have won four of the last five meetings between the two NFC West rivals.

On Wednesday, Garoppolo was asked to share his memories of playing in Seattle.

"Some good, some bad," Garoppolo responded. "Obviously, the first one that pops in my head is when Dre [Greenlaw] made the big play on the goal line. But yeah, they've gotten the better of us these last couple of times.

"So, this will be a good challenge for us, going into their home turf. It's going to be a hostile environment. We know that, whatever the records are. But we'll be ready for it."

Garoppolo recalls that 2019 battle at Lumen Field being one of his most memorable. Greenlaw's big stop in the closing seconds ensured the victory and an NFC West title. The win was pivotal in San Francisco's playoff push and eventual Super Bowl appearance.

"That was a dog fight of a game, man. It really was," Garoppolo said. "Just all 60 minutes. We knew it. It always is with these guys. But yeah, just that atmosphere, that was one of the coolest atmospheres I've ever played in. I can remember, pre-game, sitting there, and just kind of soaking it in for that split-second moment. But it'll be a dog fight. We know that going into it, so we have our minds right."

The 49ers enter the game with a 6-5 record. The Seahawks are an unimpressive 3-8. No one is taking Seattle lightly, though. Garoppolo, maybe more than anyone on the roster, knows that the Seahawks defense comes to play whenever the two teams meet.

"They're just always flying around, honestly," Garoppolo said. "It's the way they move, the way they chase the ball. They're sound in their coverage. They don't do too much to complicate things. But it's just they're very sound, and they tackle very well in space. So all that added together makes for a good defense."

The 49ers are currently 3.5-point favorites. Garoppolo has played well over the last five games, and San Francisco has won four of those games, including the last three.

Garoppolo didn't have to deal with the loud Lumen Field crowd in their last meeting in Seattle. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented fans from attending. Sunday will be a bigger challenge.

"They get after it up there," Garoppolo said. "But it's a good challenge. We try to embrace it, get the silent count going. It'll be a little different than last year. It was a nice luxury without the crowd last year. But yeah, it's a tougher spot to play."

Sunday's kickoff between the 49ers and Seahawks is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. PT.

Jimmy Garoppolo explains why he signed with 49ers' division rival

By David Bonilla
Mar 20

Jimmy Garoppolo is back in the NFC West after signing a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback recently explained his decision to join the division rival after a one-season stint with the Las Vegas Raiders. "Obviously good players all around," Garoppolo said, per ESPN. "That's a big part of it. Talking to [head coach] Sean [McVay] on the phone, him just running me through offense and things that he had in mind, it really became appetizing. And I know a lot of the coaches here, so a lot of familiarity in that aspect. And then having played against the Rams a lot in my career, I've seen a lot of good things

49ers see impending mega-deal for Brock Purdy as a 'good problem'

By David Bonilla
Mar 27

The San Francisco 49ers are actively working to sign wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to a contract extension, aiming to maintain their talented young core of players. The team has reached agreements with star players during each of the last four offseasons, securing George Kittle in 2020, Fred Warner in 2021, Deebo Samuel in 2022, and Nick Bosa in 2023. Another key contributor poised for a new deal next offseason is quarterback Brock Purdy. Over the last couple of years, the 49ers have been in the unique position of not having to pay much money (relatively) to stock their quarterback room while reaping the benefits of superb play from their starting signal-caller. However,

49ers view Isaac Yiadom as leading candidate to start at CB, says insider

By David Bonilla
Mar 21

The San Francisco 49ers' signing of cornerback Isaac Yiadom to a one-year deal wasn't a headline-grabbing move. It wasn't even the Bay Area team's most significant free-agency move thus far. That would be defensive end Leonard Floyd signing a two-year deal with the 49ers. However, San Francisco hopes Yiadom proves to be one of its more underrated signings. The 28-year-old defensive back is coming off his best NFL season. Yiadom's 81.1 overall grade and 80.4 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus were career highs. Opposing quarterbacks completed 50 percent of their passes (22 of 44) and owned an 84.4 passer rating when targeting the former New Orleans Saints defender in 2023. RELATED:

49ers actively negotiating with Brandon Aiyuk, not discussing trades, says John Lynch

By David Bonilla
Mar 25

General manager John Lynch addressed reporters at the NFL owners meetings on Monday, emphasizing the San Francisco 49ers' active pursuit of a contract extension for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. There has been significant speculation surrounding Aiyuk's status this offseason. The receiver is slated to play on his fifth-year option, which guarantees him $14.124 million in 2024. While the team would be content with Aiyuk playing on that fifth-year option, it would prefer to secure the star receiver to a long-term deal before he returns to the field.
