Jeff Wilson Jr. looks on track to start his first game since last season. Now a veteran in the running back room, Wilson is ready for whatever the San Francisco 49ers demand of him against the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend.

"Whatever they ask [of] me," Wilson said after Friday's practice. "That's been the thing since Day 1. So whatever you're called upon, that's what you're called upon to do. So, if that was the case, that's what I'll do. If it was for me to get only a couple of carries, be a blocker, then that's what I'll do. Whatever the task is, that's what I'll do."

The 49ers figured on Wilson being a key contributor in the team's rushing attack this season. However, the running back underwent surgery in May to repair a torn meniscus. The injury didn't occur on the practice field, though. Instead, it was a strange non-contact injury that happened elsewhere at the facility.

"Jeff got hurt sitting down in a chair in the locker room," head coach Kyle Shanahan said in June. "And he got out of it, and his knee got in an awkward position. Obviously, it was a freak unfortunate accident."

Wilson started the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list. He was activated on November 6 and had 10 carries during Monday night's win against the Los Angeles Rams.

"[The injury] was just a freak accident," Wilson said. "It's just something that happened that I can't really too much explain to you. I just felt a pop and just had to go through a surgery and the rehab process. That's pretty much what it was."

Wilson added, "It's one of those things that was a big question mark. It's just weird how it happened and how they explained it to me. It was just all weird, but thankful to God we got through it, and I'm feeling much better now."

Shanahan is happy to have the veteran running back available. The team's starter, Elijah Mitchell, sustained a finger fracture during the second quarter of Monday night's game. The severity of the injury wasn't learned until after the game. The rookie running back underwent a procedure on Tuesday to repair the damage. Mitchell is listed as "doubtful" for Sunday.

Wilson's return and his energy have given the 49ers offense a much-needed boost.

"The first time Jeff came out there, he looked exactly like the guy he's been," Shanahan shared. "Jeff plays with so much energy. The way you guys see him in games is exactly how he is in practice. So, our team feeds off him a ton, and the more practice he's gone, the more he's got his legs under him, and he's ready to go."

The now-healthy Wilson gained some valuable snaps on Monday night and feels ready to carry the load in Mitchell's place, if needed. After all, Wilson was the 49ers' leading rusher last season, racking up 600 rushing yards through 12 game appearances and three starts.

"I feel good, just getting out there every day in practice, and just feeling yourself going through the game, being able to get some action [on Monday]," Wilson added. "So, it was just a confidence builder. I've got a lot of confidence in myself, so I feel really good."

49ers reportedly sought No. 17 overall pick plus Jaguars player for Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Mar 18

Mia O'Brien, a reporter for Jacksonville radio station 1010XL, was the first to link San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. A new report from O'Brien sheds light on the asking price for the star wide receiver, who is entering his fifth-year option. According to O'Brien, the 49ers sought the No. 17 overall pick, plus wide receiver Zay Jones, in exchange for Aiyuk. However, it seems this asking price was deemed too high for the Jaguars, who would have had to part ways with these assets and commit significant money to Aiyuk in the form of a contract

49ers' John Lynch provides Talanoa Hufanga update, discusses plan at safety

By David Bonilla
Mar 25

The San Francisco 49ers have been actively exploring options at safety this offseason, both in free agency and during their draft evaluations. A recent report from the San Francisco Chronicle indicated that All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga's starting position is not guaranteed for the upcoming season as he recovers from a torn ACL sustained on November 19, 2023. During a media session at the NFL owners meetings on Monday, general manager John Lynch shared an update on Hufanga's progress, noting that offseason roster additions could still occur. "Talanoa is doing really well. That's the great news," Lynch said of his young rehabbing safety. "He's rehabbing extremely well,

49ers view Isaac Yiadom as leading candidate to start at CB, says insider

By David Bonilla
Mar 21

The San Francisco 49ers' signing of cornerback Isaac Yiadom to a one-year deal wasn't a headline-grabbing move. It wasn't even the Bay Area team's most significant free-agency move thus far. That would be defensive end Leonard Floyd signing a two-year deal with the 49ers. However, San Francisco hopes Yiadom proves to be one of its more underrated signings. The 28-year-old defensive back is coming off his best NFL season. Yiadom's 81.1 overall grade and 80.4 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus were career highs. Opposing quarterbacks completed 50 percent of their passes (22 of 44) and owned an 84.4 passer rating when targeting the former New Orleans Saints defender in 2023. RELATED:

49ers' George Kittle, Charvarius Ward underwent surgeries; Dre Greenlaw aiming for Week 1 return

By David Bonilla
Mar 25

According to general manager John Lynch, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward wasn't the sole player to undergo core muscle surgery this offseason. Lynch disclosed to reporters at the NFL owners meetings on Monday that All-Pro tight end George Kittle also had the procedure. However, the silver lining is that both players are expected to be fully cleared for training camp, set to commence at the end of July. George Kittle and Charvarius Ward both had core muscle surgery this offseason and will be back, fully cleared, for
