Pro Football Focus gives 49ers QB Mac Jones in 2021 redraft

By Kirk Larrabee

Remember Mac Jones? Jones is hard to forget for any 49ers fans who followed the buildup to the 2021 NFL Draft. There was an air of mystery surrounding what the 49ers would do once they acquired the third overall pick from the Miami Dolphins, with plenty of speculation over whether or not Jones would be the player they chose after making that trade. But while Jones was coming off a breakout season in leading the University of Alabama to a national championship, many fans weren't enthused with the thought of the 49ers drafting him due in part to the belief he didn't have as high of a ceiling as Justin Fields of Ohio State or Trey Lance of North Dakota State. The 49ers apparently felt the same, selecting Lance at pick 3 while Jones fell to the New England Patriots

49ers' Deebo Samuel, George Kittle among PFF's top offensive duos

The San Francisco 49ers would probably love to see Brandon Aiyuk emerge as one of the top receivers in the NFL. That would make an Aiyuk-Deebo Samuel duo a headache for opposing defenses. Until then, the 49ers have two impressive offensive weapons in Samuel and tight end George Kittle. That's good news for second-year quarterback Trey Lance, who is expected to be the team's Week 1 starter after starting only two games as a rookie. The Samuel-Kittle pairing ranks among Pro Football Focus' top five offensive duos heading into the 2022 season. Kambui Bomani explains that both controlling the middle of the field at an elite level landed them within the

For much of the offseason, many 49ers fans have believed the team will move on from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, either via trade or release. However, three months after the beginning of the 2022 league year, the veteran signal-caller still remains a member of the franchise as he rehabs from shoulder surgery. Additionally, at the linebacker position, many have clamored for the 49ers to trade Dre Greenlaw, given that he's a free agent in 2023 and currently carries a cap hit of $2.54 million after signing his tender as a restricted free agent. Fellow linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair broke out last season while Greenlaw missed 14 games due to multiple injuries, creating a formidable duo at the position with former All-Pro Fred Warner. However, there's a dark horse trade

49ers' Brandon Aiyuk among PFF's Year 3 breakout candidates

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was a hot pick last year as a candidate primed to have a breakout season. Instead, it was third-year wideout Deebo Samuel who emerged as one of the best in the game. Aiyuk was slow out of the gate, hauling in just one pass for six yards in the Niners' first two games. He played just 51 percent of the offensive snaps through Week 2. Aiyuk finished the season strong, playing at least 90 percent of the offensive snaps in each game starting in Week 9. He amassed 43 receptions for 685 yards and four touchdowns during that span. Can Aiyuk have a Samuel-like breakout season in his third year—minus the running back snaps. One thousand, four hundred five of Samuel's 1,770 all-purpose yards came as a receiver. In 2021,
