Have we seen Raheem Mostert in red and gold for the last time? The San Francisco 49ers running back will become a free agent after this season. He appeared in one game before suffering a knee injury and landing on injured reserve.

The initial prognosis had Mostert missing about eight weeks, providing hope that the veteran running back would return this season. It wasn't long before Mostert announced that he opted for surgery, ending his 2021 campaign.

"After consulting with multiple doctors and weighing my options, I will be having season-ending surgery to repair my knee," wrote Mostert via his announcement.

Mostert underwent surgery this past week and posted the following post-surgery video via Instagram.

Today, Mostert thanked the fans who wished him well and expressed his excitement as he embarks on the road to recovery.

Added Mostert in his initial announcement: "I wish more than anything I could be out there on the field with my brothers!!! Thank you for your support in our decision. I'M FAR FROM DONE!"

Next season will be Mostert's eighth in the NFL. During his time with San Francisco, he has amassed 1,610 rushing yards, 361 receiving yards, 11 rushing touchdowns, and three receiving touchdowns through 46 games and nine starts.

Mostert waited a month for his surgery. The running back was seen on the sidelines with his teammates following the injury.

"He's still waiting to have the surgery," head coach Kyle Shanahan explained earlier this month, "which they told me it takes some time for them to find the right donor for that part. So, he's just waiting and spending time with the team."

In April, the 49ers drafted two running backs — Trey Sermon out of Ohio State in the third round and Elijah Mitchell out of Louisiana in the sixth round.

Following the initial flurry of free agency activity, ESPN's Bill Barnwell took a closer look at the remaining unsigned players, identifying ideal landing spots for each. Among the prospects, cornerback Tre'Davious White found himself connected with the San Francisco 49ers as a prime fit. The Buffalo Bills, who selected White with the No. 27 overall pick in 2017, released the cornerback on March 13. The 49ers would love to bolster the defensive backfield, finding a better option to pair on the outside with Charvarius Ward and allowing Deommodore Lenoir to find a permanent home in the

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand. Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction.
