The San Francisco 49ers officially announced that the practice window for running back Trenton Cannon has been opened. It suffered a concussion on December 5 against the Seattle Seahawks and was placed on injured reserve on December 11. Additionally, the team restored safety Doug Middleton to the practice squad from the practice squad injured reserve list, signed punter Ryan Winslow to the team's practice squad, and released quarterback Tyler Bray from the practice squad. Regular punter Mitch Wishnowsky is in the concussion protocol. The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown. K'Waun Williams, one of the best slot corners in the league, came off the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday, the day before the San Francisco 49ers' regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams. He did not play in that game, though. A report from NBC Sports Bay Area indicated the cornerback wasn't feeling well enough to do so. Williams has not been listed on any practice participation reports this week, leading to the assumption that he has been a full participant and should play in Sunday's playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan isn't revealing anything at this point. "K'Waun's one of the top nickels in the

The San Francisco 49ers announced Saturday that safety Jimmie Ward and cornerbacks Dontae Johnson and K'Waun Williams have been activated off the Reserve/COVID-19 list, while cornerback Emmanuel Moseley has been activated from injured reserve after being sidelined with a high ankle sprain. The team also activated two players from the practice squad in linebacker Mark Nzeocha and recently-added cornerback Darqueze Dennard. In addition, linebacker Curtis Robinson was activated from the practice squad as a COVID-19 replacement. The 49ers now have a more complete secondary than they did earlier in the week, when Johnson, Williams, Ward, and cornerbacks Ambry Thomas and Deommodore Lenoir were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Thomas was activated on Friday, while

49ers status and injury updates: Jimmy Garoppolo, Trent Williams, Dre Greenlaw, Azeez Al-Shaair, Emmanuel Moseley, COVID players

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided status updates for a number of players after practice on Friday, including quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo—but he still stopped short of naming him the starter for this weekend's game against the Los Angeles Rams (Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET/1:25 p.m. PT, FOX). Shanahan stuck to his stance of not announcing a starter between Garoppolo and rookie Trey Lance in order to give Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris more to think about, but he was clearly encouraged with what he saw from Garoppolo at practice throughout the week after missing last Sunday's start against the Houston Texans with a thumb injury. "He had a good week—a good week of practice when he was in there. I feel good with where he's at right now," Shanahan
