Josh Norman compares 49ers LB Fred Warner to Luke Kuechly; says 'You haven't seen the best' of Warner yet

It's rare for the NFL to see linebackers as good as former Carolina Panthers star Luke Kuechly, but Kuechly's former teammate, cornerback Josh Norman, thinks the 49ers have one who compares very favorably to the retired All-Pro and likely future Hall of Famer. Norman, who played with Kuechly in Carolina from 2012 to 2015, spoke briefly about how Warner stacks up to his former teammate during his media session after 49ers practice on Thursday. Norman was asked if there were similarities between Warner and and his former teammate in terms of presence and command in the huddle and gave an emphatically positive answer. 'I just got to step up to the plate': New 49ers starting cornerback Deommodore Lenoir on his new role

A lot of newer young players will need to step up to the plate in order to fill the void left in the once potent 49ers' secondary after former starting cornerback Jason Verrett went down for the season with a torn ACL. Even prior to the heart-breaking loss in arguably the most important defensive unit this season, the secondary depth, especially the cornerback, was a red flag. Behind Verrett was an injured Emmanuel Moseley and two unproven rookie cornerbacks, who had size and skill concerns as they were taken after the first two rounds, not a great place to invest in a premium position. Fifth-round rookie Deommodore Lenoir however, has been a very pleasant surprise for San Fransisco, at least through preseason and Week 1 of the NFL season. Lenoir allowed a 0.0 passer rating

Fourth Quarter FINAL ALERT: The 49ers win their Week 1 matchup against the Lions to the tune of 41-33. They enter Week 2 1-0 in a thrilling matchup after leading 38-10 at one point in the game. Samson Ebukam and Kentavious Street combine for the pressure on Jared Goff to force a fourth-down incompletion and win the game for the 49ers. After an incomplete to Cephus on the outside, Jared Goff finds Kalif Raymond over the middle for a 25 yard catch under deep pressure. The Lions burn their last timeout and have the ball at the SF 25 with 34 seconds remaining. Jared Goff completes a dart to Amon-Ra St. Brown for a 20 yard pass. The Lions now are at the SF 50 with 42 seconds left. TURNOVER ALERT:

The San Francisco 49ers were the first team on the scoreboard at Ford Field after rookie quarterback Trey Lance tossed a five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Trent Sherfield in the first quarter. The scoring drive that twice featured Lance coming In for veteran Jimmy Garoppolo resulted in the 49ers taking an early 7-0 lead over the home-team Detroit Lions.
