Why the 49ers Need to Dump Jimmy Garoppolo’s Contract A.S.A.P.

Jun 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM--

If the 49ers think Jimmy Garoppolo gives them their best chance to win the Super Bowl next season, they're most likely mistaken. Garoppolo will be a goner eventually -- the 49ers traded up for his replacement, Trey Lance. Which means Garoppolo remains on the team for one reason: the 49ers believe ...Continue reading

49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo on why no one should panic over Brandon Aiyuk's reduced production

Jimmy Garoppolo doesn't sound the least bit worried about Brandon Aiyuk. Early in training camp, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback looked to have a good rapport with his top receivers, Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Expectations surrounding the two were through the roof. Samuel leads the league in receiving with 282 yards and a touchdown on just 15 receptions. That's an 18.8 yard-per-catch average. While the third-year receiver is off to a hot start, Aiyuk has just one reception for six yards. It's not the performance fans expected after watching Aiyuk's impressive rookie campaign. That, of course, has led to much speculation surrounding what is holding back Aiyuk. The 49ers have repeatedly addressed the situation. However, that hasn't stopped the rampant

2021 49ers need to learn how to finish...and start

We are three weeks into the San Francisco 49ers' 2021 season, and while we have seen a lot of good things (like a game-winning touchdown drive to seemingly beat the Packers), we have also seen some not-so-good things (like letting the Packers win the game in 37 seconds, with no timeouts). It was the ultimate "thrill of victory and agony of defeat" all jam-packed into half a minute, as the 49ers lost 30-28 at Levi's Stadium. Even through the first two games, there were signs that something wasn't quite right. Wins are hard to come by in the NFL, so anytime you walk away with a win, you have to be happy with it. But it was apparent, even in the wins, that the 49ers had things to work on (as all teams do). They were, at best, off to a slow start, and at worst, an immature team

Trey Lance took four snaps on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. One of those snaps featured the rookie quarterback's only pass and his first touchdown pass — a five-yard strike to wide receiver Trent Sherfield. Lance had replaced starter Jimmy Garoppolo on the drive. Maybe Garoppolo would have added that touchdown to his stats had he remained in the game. What was the veteran's reaction to seeing his eventual successor throw his first NFL touchdown? Garoppolo was among the first to celebrate with Lance on the sideline after the play. During the broadcast, Mark Sanchez, one of the FOX announcers calling the game, commented on the potential awkwardness of celebrating your young successor's accomplishment. "That's not an easy hug to give," Sanchez

49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo says Brandon Aiyuk will be ready when his number is called

When the San Francisco 49ers beat the Detroit Lions last Sunday, there were a few surprises, including wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk only playing 25 snaps in the game, having no passes come his way. 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was asked about Aiyuk's lack of targets. "You know, it's one of those things that, our offense, you see it every season; it's a week-by-week offense," Garoppolo said Tuesday morning on KNBR's Murph & Mac show. "One guy, this week is his number. Next week, it's the other guy. It's just one of those things that you can't get too caught up in it.
