"I will not be changing," wrote
Deebo Samuel via Instagram.
A few weeks ago, the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver gave the impression that he was
pondering a jersey number change. It sounds like he will be sticking with No. 19. So if you purchased a Samuel jersey, you should be good.
Samuel wore No. 1 during his time at South Carolina. He had previously posted photos of himself during his college playing days and asked fans, "How y'all feel about this?"
In April, the NFL passed a proposal to loosen the restrictions on jersey numbers. There are now more options for certain position groups to wear numbers that were not previously allowed.
Earlier this month, cornerback
Jason Verrett announced that he is
switching from No. 22 to No. 2. Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley is
switching from No. 41 to No. 4.
Samuel is entering his third NFL season. San Francisco made him a second-round pick in 2019. The receiver has hauled in 90 passes for 1,193 yards with four receiving touchdowns in his two NFL seasons. He has also added 22 carries for 185 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns during that time.

It's evident that the San Francisco 49ers engaged in long-term financial planning. Much discussion has centered around the feasibility of the team committing significant financial resources to two wide receivers, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel.
