Justin Wong just released his latest Mock Draft Roundup. The overwhelming favorite projection for the San Francisco 49ers at the No. 3 overall pick is the selection of quarterback Mac Jones of Alabama.

Add NFL Network's Peter Schrager to the list of those following that narrative.

The Good Morning Football host released his own mock draft on Thursday morning, and like most others, it has Trevor Lawrence of Clemson and Zach Wilson of BYU coming off the board with the top two selections. Those predictions seem like no-brainers.

Based on what he is hearing around the league, Schrager has San Francisco going with the Crimson Tide product, Jones.

"The 49ers made a decisive trade to get to No. 3 overall," wrote Schrager. "I honestly do not think they've made a decision on who the QB will be yet, but they wanted the flexibility to make that choice over the next few weeks. I will tell you this: Mac Jones' name didn't pop up out of nowhere. And I don't think it's a smokescreen. He has all of the traits Kyle Shanahan is looking for."

Jones (6-3, 214) helped guide Alabama to a National Championship this past collegiate season while completing 77.4 percent of his passes for 4,500 yards with 41 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

A potential selection of Jones might have been less criticized by the 49ers fanbase when the team sat at No. 12. It's not a popular projection at No. 3 if it means passing on more athletic quarterbacks with potentially higher ceilings, like Justin Fields of Ohio State or Trey Lance of North Dakota State.

One NFL Network analyst, Bucky Brooks, doesn't even view Jones as worthy of a first-round selection.

"Perhaps the Alabama quarterback is a secret member of The Avengers, operating like Tony Stark as Iron Man," wrote Brooks in a recent feature for NFL.com. "... While I'm not issuing a complete dismissal of Jones' talents as a pinpoint passer with nice timing, touch and anticipation, he significantly benefited from playing behind an NFL-caliber offensive line with first-round talents at wide receiver and running back. The Crimson Tide offense was the armored suit that elevated Jones' game, and scouts need to keep his production in perspective when gauging his talent."

We're still three weeks away from the start of the draft, and it is possible the narrative changes following Fields' second pro day, which head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch are expected to attend.

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

With only nine days remaining until the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, Good Morning Football's Peter Schrager revealed his first mock draft of the year. While most might expect the San Francisco 49ers to target an offensive lineman, Schrager has the team bolstering its wide receiver corps with an SEC talent. Schrager has the 49ers using the No. 31 overall pick to select former Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey, whose 2023 campaign with the Bulldogs was limited by back and ankle injuries. "McConkey in the first round? Yes," Schrager wrote. "Above guys like Troy Franklin and Keon Coleman? Perhaps. I've spoken to a

Trent Williams will be 36 at the start of the 2024 NFL season. While retirement isn't on his mind just yet, the San Francisco 49ers must consider a succession plan for left tackle. NFL Media's Bucky Brooks unveiled his final mock draft, projecting the San Francisco 49ers to select former Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan with the No. 31 overall pick as their eventual replacement for Williams. "With Trent Williams entering the twilight of his career, the 49ers have to find an eventual replacement on the edge," Brooks noted. "Morgan is a sound blocker at the point of attack with diverse skills

Mock draft season is drawing to a close, and NFL Media analyst Charles Davis turned in his third and final installment ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, set to commence tomorrow in Detroit. It's widely anticipated that the San Francisco 49ers will bolster their offensive line with the No. 31 overall pick, and Davis doesn't stray from this expectation. With talents like Amarius Mims and Tyler Guyton off the board, Davis sees general manager John Lynch and his team selecting former Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten. "Having gone without a first-round pick in each of the past two drafts, the

49ers add pass rusher in new 7-round mock draft

By David Bonilla
Apr 15

Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team revealed his latest mock draft, which goes seven rounds deep and projects every selection for every NFL team. While most predict that the San Francisco 49ers will add an offensive lineman with their first selection, No. 31 overall, Mosher has the Bay Area team going in a different direction. The writer and analyst has the Niners selecting former UCLA pass rusher Laiatu Latu in the first round. "It wouldn't be a shock to see Laiatu Latu fall in the draft due to his medical history, but he is too good of a value to pass up here at No. 31," Mosher wrote. "The San Francisco 49ers have been searching for the right pass
