Legal issues derailed Texans' plans to create bidding war, likely involving 49ers, for Deshaun Watson

This has been a mess of an offseason for the Houston Texans. Team representatives repeatedly stated that they have no intention of trading disgruntled quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson has stated that he has no desire to play for Houston anymore. Texans brass has even reportedly ignored calls from interested teams. Was that all a ploy, though? John McCain of the Houston Chronicle believes so. Of course, everything changed when legal issues caused Watson's trade value to plummet, and Houston lost any advantage it might have had in trade discussions. Watson is currently facing 22 civil suits accusing him of sexual harassment and assault, along with an NFL investigation. The San Francisco 49ers were reportedly interested in Watson—before the

La Canfora: Strong expectation among NFL GMs that 49ers try to trade Jimmy Garoppolo this week

The San Francisco 49ers have repeatedly stated that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo remains in the team's plans for 2021. That would mean a rookie sitting behind him for at least the upcoming season, which makes sense. The 49ers are built to win now and have shown they can do so with Garoppolo at the helm. However, his durability has become a concern after missing 23 games over the past three seasons. Maybe that won't remain the plan. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that there is a "very strong" expectation around the league that San Francisco will make an effort to trade Garoppolo before or even during the draft. "Timing isn't great with 5 QBs about to go in 1st round, but Jimmy G's future there now seen as bleak," wrote La Canfora via

The San Francisco 49ers have used this offseason to invest heavily in their offensive line. Last season, the line was efficient enough to be an above average unit, ranking ninth on PFF's final 2020 offensive line rankings. However, despite grading well for the most part, the offensive line unit had its share of struggles throughout the season, especially when it came to pass protection. The 49ers allowed the most QB hits in the NFL, and were at the bottom of the league with 39 sacks allowed, an allowed sack rate of 6.40, and conceded 2.4 sacks per game on average per TeamRankings.com. Determined to

Kurt Warner dives into 49ers draft mindset, states his preference for pick three

Like most of us, NFL Network analyst and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner doesn't know for sure which player the 49ers will choose when the time comes to reveal their selection at pick three of the 2021 NFL Draft. But he does have a personal preference for that pick, along with some thoughts on what factors the 49ers have been weighing throughout the decision-making process. Warner was a guest on The Rich Eisen Show Friday, days before he and the NFL Network will head to Cleveland, Ohio for this year's NFL Draft. Warner took several minutes to discuss what could happen at pick three, saying he believes the 49ers' decision could come down to what direction they'd like to take from current starter Jimmy Garoppolo. In particular, Warner thinks Alabama
