ESPN analyst Todd McShay sounds torn. He strongly believes that the San Francisco 49ers should draft quarterback Trey Lance of North Dakota State with the No. 3 overall pick in 10 days. However, he can't envision that happening. Everything he is hearing is pointing toward another prospect. "I would take Trey Lance. I'm just going to be honest," McShay told Rich Eisen on Monday. "I would take Trey Lance of North Dakota State. I think that he has the highest ceiling of the other quarterbacks after the top two, but I keep hearing -- the intel I keep getting is that Mac Jones is going to be the pick." Jones of Alabama and Justin Fields of Ohio State remain strong possibilities for that selection at No. 3. Jones is seen as more pro-ready, but Fields and Lance are more

Peter King of NBC Sports was the first to report that San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch would be in attendance for the second pro days of both Justin Fields of Ohio State and Trey Lance of North Dakota State. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media confirmed that report this morning. #OSU QB Justin Fields has his second Pro Day on Wednesday and

Justin Fields of Ohio State will hold a second pro day workout on Wednesday. Five days later, Trey Lance of North Dakota State will take part in his second. Both are trying to ensure that they are selected ahead of Mac Jones of Alabama. Trevor Lawrence of Clemson is expected to be drafted No. 1 overall. The New York Jets are expected to select Zach Wilson of BYU at No. 2. Assuming San Francisco targets a quarterback, that leaves Jones, Fields, and Lance as San Francisco's choices at No. 3. Jones is the overwhelming favorite to be the pick if you ask members of the national media. Fans would much prefer the more athletic and higher ceilinged prospects in Fields or Lance. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch chose to attend Jones'

Throughout the past couple of weeks, the anticipation and coverage around who the Niners will take with the third pick in the draft has dramatically built to the expense of the discussion on who they should take in the later rounds of the draft. The 49ers' offseason signings and new free agency acquisitions have certainly exceeded expectations but there are certainly still plenty of holes and weak patches on the roster. Addressing these roster spots efficiently in the draft is crucial as the players they pick will be inexpensive and productive, leaving room for even more cap space for next year's free agency. This year, San Francisco has the following picks: 3 (1st Round); 43 (2nd Round); 102 (3rd Round); 117 (4th Round); 155, 172, 180 (Round 5); 194 (Round 6); 230 (Round
