Despite the fractured relationship, the Houston Texans remain the favorites to have Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback to kick off the 2021 season. However, should the relationship be damaged beyond repair, a trade could be in the quarterback's future if he chooses to force a divorce.
San Francisco 49ers fans would love to see what Watson paired with head coach Kyle Shanahan would mean for opposing defenses. However, that would also mean giving up a lot in terms of compensation to acquire the young playmaker, and oddsmakers have five teams — other than the Texans — listed as more likely destinations for the disgruntled quarterback.
Below are the 10 favorites to have Watson on their rosters during Week 1 of the 2021 season, per Bovada and courtesy of Odds Shark.
- Texans -160
- Dolphins +250
- Patriots +950
- Jets +950
- Bears +1200
- Colts +1200
- 49ers +2000
- Washington +2000
- Eagles +2500
- Lions +3300
Houston made Watson the No. 12 overall pick out of Clemson in 2017. He led the league with a career-high 4,823 passing yards through 16 games in 2020, completing 70.2 percent of his passes while throwing 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

49ers add edge rusher in latest NFL.com mock draft
NFL Network host Rhett Lewis released his first mock draft of the year on NFL.com. What does he project the San Francisco 49ers doing with the No. 31 overall pick? Lewis has the team acquiring some edge-rushing help, bolstering a group that already includes Nick Bosa and newly signed Leonard Floyd.
The host has the 49ers selecting former Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson.
According to Sports Reference, Robinson registered 41 tackles, including 17.5 for a loss, 9.5 sacks, three passes defensed, and three forced fumbles in two
49ers add pass rusher in new 7-round mock draft
Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team revealed his latest mock draft, which goes seven rounds deep and projects every selection for every NFL team. While most predict that the San Francisco 49ers will add an offensive lineman with their first selection, No. 31 overall, Mosher has the Bay Area team going in a different direction.
The writer and analyst has the Niners selecting former UCLA pass rusher Laiatu Latu in the first round.
"It wouldn't be a shock to see Laiatu Latu fall in the draft due to his medical history, but he is too good of a value to pass up here at No. 31," Mosher wrote. "The San Francisco 49ers have been searching for the right pass
Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk
Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture.
Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft.
Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his
Potential 49ers defensive draft target visiting this week
Last week, it was reported that the San Francisco 49ers planned to host former Kentucky cornerback Andru Phillips on a pre-draft visit. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo confirms that the visit will take place during the upcoming week, which marks the final opportunity for such visits to occur.
Phillips will also meet with the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans this week.
Adding a noteworthy tidbit to the social media post, Garafolo mentions, "A likely second-round pick, though some evaluators have first-round grades on
