Time for Trey? Jimmy Garoppolo not on the field for 49ers' Friday practice

By David Bonilla
Oct 8

All eyes are on the status of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The team is holding its final practice of the week, and it's the last chance for Garoppolo to see if he can go for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. If not, that would likely mean rookie Trey Lance is getting his first NFL start. "I think today is critical," general manager John Lynch said this morning. "If it's not today, then we go with Trey." After missing Wednesday and Thursday's sessions, multiple reports state that Garoppolo was not on the field as today's practice got underway. That likely means we'll see Lance start in his place on Sunday. Of course,

49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo wants to 'give it a go' at practice on Friday, says Kyle Shanahan

The door hasn't completely shut on the possibility of Jimmy Garoppolo being the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. The veteran quarterback hasn't practiced this week after sustaining a calf injury during Week 4's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Things appear to be trending in the direction of rookie Trey Lance making his first career NFL start. Garoppolo hasn't given up hope of playing, though. He may be on the practice field on Friday, the team's final practice of the week. Head coach Kyle Shanahan joined KNBR this afternoon. The only player he was willing to rule out for the weekend is cornerback K'Waun Williams, who isn't expected to return until after the bye week. "Jimmy told me he wants to give it a

Golden Nugget Award: 49ers WR Deebo Samuel continues dominating play in loss to Seahawks

By Sasha D. Robinson

Each week, I present the Golden Nugget Award to a San Francisco 49ers player who had an outstanding game or managed to defy the odds. Week 4's award goes to third-year wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The other nominees for this week's award were quarterback Trey Lance for coming off the bench and displaying why the 49ers traded up to the No. 3 overall pick to draft him, defensive ends Dee Ford and Nick Bosa for showing dominance along the defensive line, and running back Trey Sermon for his 19 carries for 89 rushing yards against the Seattle Seahawks. Samuel, whose real name is Tyshun, received the nickname Deebo, the name of the notorious bully from the movie "Friday," from his father Galen, because he always took things away from people as a toddler. The 49ers lost

Do the 49ers have an identity crisis on offense? Joe Staley thinks so...and he's not alone

By Marc Adams
Oct 12

Do the San Francisco 49ers have an identity crisis on offense? Former 49ers great, and current analyst, Joe Staley, thinks so. And he's not the only one. Staley went on KNBR's Papa & Lund show on Monday to talk 49ers. In addition to saying Kyle Shanahan will likely go back to Jimmy Garoppolo in two weeks, but that the offense is more exciting with Trey Lance, Staley spent some time talking about the identity of the team. Particularly, the identity of the offense. "What's been shocking to me is that, one of the things, too, has been that stretch zone, but all the play-action roll-outs, that was one of our identities, the keep game. And it hasn't been
