49ers rookie QB Trey Lance reveals prediction for Madden NFL rating

Players around the NFL are often disappointed by their Madden NFL video game ratings, pleading with the game manufacturer, EA Sports, to give them a boost. The Checkdown asked some of the rookie quarterbacks from this year's draft class to predict their Madden NFL 22 ratings for the upcoming season. It's always difficult to rate rookies because they have yet to prove anything in the league. Trey Lance was among those asked to predict their ratings in the upcoming release of the football video game franchise, and the San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback sounded optimistic about his potential rating. Maybe too optimistic. Lance believes his Madden rating should be 88 "because I can do a lot of things, I can make

Peter King betting a healthy Jimmy Garoppolo can hold off 49ers rookie Trey Lance

Peter King of NBC Sports — and everyone else really — is giving Jimmy Garoppolo a lot of credit this offseason for saying and doing all the right things, even as his team brought in his replacement. Garoppolo has been the unchallenged starter since his first game appearance after being traded from New England to San Francisco in 2017. He was seen as the quarterback of the future, and in the ensuing offseason, was handed a contract that solidified that. Three years later, his successor is on the roster. The 49ers traded up to No. 3 overall to select Trey Lance of North Dakota State. Understandably, Garoppolo wasn't happy about the decision. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have been honest with their veteran

One thing is abundantly clear so far about 49ers rookie cornerback Ambry Thomas -- he's in no danger of falling short on confidence. Thomas, who was selected by the 49ers in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Michigan, spoke with reporters Wednesday, two days before the 49ers kick off their rookie minicamp in Santa Clara. His confidence was on display throughout the media session, particularly after being asked about what he thought regarding the increased cost of living that will come from moving to the Bay Area from the Midwest. "Immediately once I got the phone call (during the draft), I was happy, excited. And I thought about everything," Thomas said. "California, the taxes, and I started thinking about all that -- the cost of

Football Outsiders names this position as the 49ers' biggest roster hole

The San Francisco 49ers own what many expect to be a talented roster for the upcoming season. Of course, that depends on the depth chart not being impacted by the poor injury luck the team endured in 2020. "Assuming everyone stays healthy this year, the 49ers have one of the league's more complete rosters, with no obvious weakness on offense or defense," wrote Vincent Verhei of Football Outsiders in a feature for ESPN. No roster is perfect, though. If you look hard enough, you can always find a weakness. Where would you say that weakness lies with the 49ers? Perhaps the depth at cornerback? Maybe somewhere along the offensive line?
