The San Francisco 49ers signed speedy former Browns and Chargers wide receiver Travis Benjamin to a one-year, $1.05 million contract last April. He was excited to be reunited with head coach Kyle Shanahan. San Francisco was so confident that Benjamin could contribute that it was willing to trade away its fastest wideout, Marquise Goodwin, during the draft. Just over a month later, tragedy hit Benjamin's family. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has been going strong for nearly a year now, had hit home. By David Bonilla

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently reported that the Niners are among the teams that Deshaun Watson is "intrigued by." The quarterback wants out of Houston, but the Texans have no desire to trade him and are still hoping to reconcile their differences. Fowler added on SportsCenter this weekend that it would take a monumental opportunity, like adding Watson, for the 49ers to even consider moving on from Garoppolo. "I'm told San Fran is looking at potential upgrades, but they still like Jimmy G," Fowler said via
