He's played for both Harbaughs (Jim and John), both Grudens (Jon and Jay) and has played for so many teams that he jokes his garage in his native Oakland is packed with playbooks. But Josh Johnson, 34, the 49ers' new practice-squad quarterback, turned serious when asked a challenging question: Can he name each of his employers in his one-of-a-kind football life?

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed quarterback Josh Johnson and offensive lineman Corbin Kaufusi to reserve/future contracts.
These types of contracts are used to claim the rights to players and they take effect at the start of the new league year. That's when they begin counting against the salary cap.
The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.
Johnson (6-3, 205) was originally drafted in the fifth round (160th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Deshaun Watson saga continues, and the star quarterback may have played his last snap for the Houston Texans. At least, that is the "growing sense" from sources in and around the organization, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter (h/t to Patrick Tulini).
