Unless you stay off of social media, as Jimmy Garoppolo does, it's tough to escape all of the speculation surrounding the San Francisco 49ers quarterback's future. Garoppolo remains the favorite to be the Week 1 starter. Beyond 2021, though, who knows? San Francisco recently traded away several valuable draft picks, including multiple first-rounders, to move up to the No. 3 spot for the opportunity to acquire a quarterback of the future. The team obviously sees a potential upgrade in at least one option between Justin Fields, Trey Lance, or Mac Jones. However, Garoppolo remains in the team's plans for this season, allowing a rookie the luxury of sitting and learning behind a veteran. Cornerback Jason Verrett spoke with reporters today. Former San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley, now retired, spoke with former NFL running back Michael Robinson during the latest NFL Total Access: The Locker Room podcast. The team freed up enough salary-cap space to afford the luxury of holding onto

Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson are widely expected to go at the No. 1 and 2 spots, leaving head coach Kyle Shanahan with his pick of Justin Fields, Trey Lance, or Mac Jones. The first two are considered the better prospects. Of course, there is a lot of chatter surrounding Jones. At least, there was before what some consider to be a less-than-stellar second pro day. inside the mind of Kyle Shanahan pic.twitter.com/Vq10jeqIcx— Josh Norris (@JoshNorris)

ESPN's Jordan Schultz recently reported that the New England Patriots are no longer pursuing San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Of course, watching John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan being chatty with Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniel at Alabama's pro day on Tuesday is enough to create more speculation. What were they discussing? Was it where they got their morning coffee? Was Belichick sharing where to obtain golfing attire? Did Garoppolo's name come up at any point during the socialization? ESPN's Dianna Russini doesn't believe that Belichick and company have given up hope of reuniting with Garoppolo in New England, especially after San Francisco
