Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters following the San Francisco 49ers' 33-6 victory over the New England Patriots and provided several injury updates.

  • Wide receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a hamstring injury.
  • Running back Jeff Wilson Jr. suffered an ankle injury.
  • Wide receiver Richie James suffered an ankle injury.

"Jeff, we're worried it's a high-ankle sprain," Shanahan said. "That's kind of what it looked like a little bit. I know he's hurting right now. Hopefully, we'll get better news on that tomorrow, but it's not sounding great right now."

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN provided the following update on Wilson.

"Deebo, with a hamstring, you never know," Shanahan continued. "I know it pulled on him on that run, which usually is some time. Hopefully, the severity won't be too bad, and he won't miss too much time.

"Richie, I'm not sure what type of ankle injury it was. They didn't give me any information on that. I know he wasn't able to go back in."

None of the three players returned to the game.

Wilson, 24, sustained his injury in the third quarter while rushing for his third touchdown of the game. He was able to walk gingerly under his own power off the field, was carted to the locker room, and later ruled "out."

Wilson finished the game with 112 rushing yards on 17 carries and two catches for eight yards.

Samuel, 24, exited the game with the 49ers up by 24 points in the fourth quarter. The injury came after the receiver took a one-yard toss from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and proceeded to the 14-yard line, setting up a 32-yard field goal and giving San Francisco a 33-6 lead. He too was eventually ruled "out."

Samuel finished the game with five catches for 65 yards and three carries for seven yards.

A questionable rumor surfaced on Wednesday regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers' interest in San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein reported that the AFC team was seemingly confident they could pull off a trade for Aiyuk. However, the credibility of this report comes into question due to the assertion that the Steelers believe they could acquire Aiyuk at a bargain price, possibly in exchange for a second-round draft pick and a late-round selection. Amidst swirling trade rumors surrounding Brandon Aiyuk, the speculation surrounding Deebo Samuel's future with the San Francisco 49ers seems to have quieted down. According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 49ers have assured Samuel that he will not be involved in any pre- or post-draft transactions, ensuring his place on the roster for the time being. "Samuel, who signed a three-year, $71.55 million extension before the 2022 season, has been assured by his bosses that he will not be dealt during or after the draft," Silver reported, citing a source familiar with the discussions. With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, it's common for the rumor mill to start churning, especially with players who are actively seeking a new contract. It was just two short years ago that WR Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers prior to draft day, only for cooler heads to prevail and eventually agree to a new deal. Now, it's WR Brandon Aiyuk's turn to try and get paid and rumors surfaced over the weekend that he too would request to be dealt. While that report was quickly shot down by his agent, there's still a lot of discussion about Aiyuk's future and if other teams will come calling on draft night.
