They haven't been teammates for three years, but New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman still has a fondness for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The two will get to see each other again on Sunday when the Patriots host the 49ers at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

This weekend's matchup will be the first time Garoppolo has faced his former squad since the Patriots traded the quarterback to San Francisco in the middle of the 2017 season. Of course, that has resulted in the quarterback receiving a lot of questions about his time in New England learning under Bill Belichick. It also resulted in a question about Garoppolo for Edelman during "The Greg Hill Show."

"Jimmy, he can play football," Edelman said on WEEI in Boston. "He's got that little gun-slinger mentality. He's got that quick release. He's handsome. You know, he's got it all."

Added Edelman: "I don't play against Jimmy G. I'll play against the defense. I'll be playing against the 49ers defense, but it will be weird and kind of cool to see him in my hometown uniform that I grew up watching, coming to Foxborough to play us this weekend."

Edelman was born in Redwood City, California.

Jeff Garcia praises Brock Purdy, discusses 49ers QB's growth potential

By David Bonilla
Apr 11

Jeff Garcia has been impressed by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in his two seasons with the team. As the last overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy was thrust into the spotlight after the 49ers faced quarterback injuries and proved his NFL mettle. While some doubts lingered after his rookie season, Purdy's resilience shone through. Despite starting only five regular-season games, he guided the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game, where, unfortunately, he suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his throwing arm. Garcia was among those who wondered whether Purdy could maintain his success into his second season. Last year, coming off surgery, Purdy set a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards. His impressive performance

The San Francisco 49ers are optimistic they can negotiate a contract extension with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Recognizing the impending significant investment, the team has been strategically planning for the day when Aiyuk's contract demands must be accommodated. Despite the team's assurance that signing Aiyuk remains a priority, speculation continues to circulate within NFL circles, often involving Aiyuk's name in trade rumors. In March, general manager John Lynch addressed these rumors, stating that the 49ers are actively engaged in discussions with Aiyuk and his representatives while

Brock Purdy hopes to organize throwing session ahead of 49ers training camp

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

The San Francisco 49ers will hold a mandatory minicamp from June 4 through 6, officially concluding the team's offseason program. After that, the Niners will break for over a month and return to the Santa Clara facilities for training camp in late July. Between that time, starting quarterbacks will often organize throwing sessions with their receivers in an effort to build chemistry ahead of the rigors of training camp. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been unable to participate in such sessions over the last two years. The last overall draft pick in 2022, Purdy had yet to make a name for himself during his first offseason. Last year, he was still recovering from offseason surgery on his throwing arm. RELATED:
