49ers-Lions: Nick Bosa, Dee Ford assess their performance in return from injury

By Kirk Larrabee

High on the list of positives for the San Francisco 49ers in their season-opening 41-33 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday was the performance of pass rushers Nick Bosa and Dee Ford, who were both effective in their first games back from injuries that held them out for most of the 2020 season. Bosa, who tore his ACL in Week 2 of the 2020 season, had four tackles, one sack, three tackles-for-loss, and two quarterback hits in the win over the Lions. Ford, who was limited to one game in 2020 due to back issues, chipped in a sack of his own and put pressure on Lions quarterback Jared Goff on more than one occasion. Both players were limited in the preseason, so it was tough to say for sure what they would do over the course of a full game. But it's safe to say the

Josh Norman may be at an age that is often associated with decline when it comes to NFL cornerbacks, but he isn't about to let it stand in the way of doing what the 49ers expect from him in the weeks ahead. In 2015, Norman was voted as a first-team All-Pro with the Carolina Panthers and was regarded as one of the elite cornerbacks in the league. Week 7: Indianapolis Colts (Loss) Kelly Wilkinson/IndyStar via Imagn Content Services, LLC Here we have a game that is really difficult to predict given the circumstances of the matchup. At this point, the 49ers are well rested and well prepared to play with a whole week of rest from live game action. Over the last two seasons, San Fransisco has won both of its games after a bye week. Additionally, if quarterback Jimmy Garapolo's play suffers over the first

Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, other 49ers players react to Jason Verrett's potentially season-ending injury

The San Francisco 49ers fear the worst but are praying for the best when it comes to starting cornerback Jason Verrett. The defender went down late during Sunday's 41-33 victory against the Detroit Lions, and head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed after the game that the team fears he suffered a torn ACL. That would land Verrett on injured reserve for the sixth time in his eight NFL seasons. The cornerback admitted that he considered retirement after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in 2018 and was glad to get another chance with the 49ers. Now, he may be facing yet another difficult journey after staying relatively healthy last season and proving himself
