Kyle Shanahan is still holding out hope that two of his stars — quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and tight end George Kittle — can make late-season returns. Of course, the San Francisco 49ers will need to be playing for something for either's return to be worth it. These next few games are critical for the 49ers' playoff hopes. That begins on Monday night when the team hosts the Buffalo Bills at its temporary home, State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Shanahan initially hoped to get Garoppolo back by Week 15. Quarterback Nick Mullens hasn't been thrown into the best situation. He has taken over an injury-ravaged San Francisco 49ers roster that is just now starting to get some of its key players back. The San Francisco 49ers placed running back JaMycal Hasty (broken collarbone) and safety Johnathan Cyprien (hamstring) on injured reserve today. The team also placed safety Jared Mayden on the practice squad injured reserve list due to a quad strain. Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters via Zoom this afternoon and provided several additional injury updates on players who did not play on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
