The San Francisco 49ers got their first win of the season on Sunday, beating the New York Jets 31-13, but it was at a great cost. The team lost two defensive linemen, Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas, for the remainder of the season due to torn ACLs. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), and running backs Raheem Mostert (knee) and Tevin Coleman (knee) could miss time due to injuries.

San Francisco was already without cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) and wide receiver Deebo Samuel (foot). It's been a rough start for the defending NFC champions, who are bringing in Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah to help offset at least some of the defensive losses.

While the 49ers won their Week 2 matchup, the increase in significant injuries appears to be a factor in their drop within power rankings.

The 49ers will remain on the East Coast this week, staying and practicing at The Greenbrier in West Virginia before returning to MetLife Stadium this weekend to play the New York Giants.

Below is a sample of some of the more prominent power rankings around the web and where San Francisco currently stands within each.

ESPN
Current Ranking: 9
Previous rank: 6
"Under-the-radar fantasy standout: Jerick McKinnon was a deep sleeper before the season, as he was returning following two years away because of a knee injury. Now? He could be in line for a whole lot more work. With fellow backs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman battling knee injuries, McKinnon is the healthiest back on the team, which could result in the big numbers the Niners expected when they signed McKinnon in 2018. That doesn't mean McKinnon will carry the freight, but he has the big-play potential and pass-catching acumen to be a key part of the offense for at least the next few weeks." — Nick Wagoner

USA Today
Current Ranking: 10
Previous rank: 9
"Last year's NFC champs are suddenly decimated – DE Nick Bosa's knee injury most crippling – and sure could use some steady vets ... like, say, DL DeForest Buckner and/or WR Emmanuel Sanders. Oops." — Nate Davis

Bleacher Report
Current Ranking: 14
Previous rank: 9
"The injuries that could have the most long-term impact came on the other side of the ball. Reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year Nick Bosa was carted off the field early with what wound up being a season-ending ACL tear, as was defensive tackle Solomon Thomas." — NFL Staff

NFL.com
Current Ranking: 14
Previous rank: 9
"An all-time Pyrrhic victory for the 49ers. Nick Bosa. Solomon Thomas. Jimmy Garoppolo. Raheem Mostert. Key players essential to the team's chances of a Super Bowl return, all knocked out of Sunday's victory over the Jets before halftime. Crushingly, Bosa and Thomas were both diagnosed with torn ACLs. Garoppolo (high ankle sprain) and Mostert (sprained MCL) have unclear timetables. This on a team already without George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and others. Playing in a loaded NFC West, it's hard to see how the 49ers can stay afloat with this level of attrition. If they do, Kyle Shanahan can start clearing room for his Coach of the Year award right now." — Dan Hanzus

CBS Sports
Current Ranking: 16
Previous rank: 9
"The injuries are crippling this team, which might make it tough to repeat as division champs. They dominated the Jets, but that wasn't the story of the day with players like Nick Bosa going down." — Pete Prisco

Sports Illustrated
Current Ranking: 20
Previous rank: 13
"It will be one of the most difficult coaching stretches of Kyle Shanahan's career: Remain afloat without your most important offensive and defensive players indefinitely while the rest of the division takes flight." — Conor Orr

Where the 49ers landed in PFF's latest power ranking

By David Bonilla
Apr 22

While it would be foolish to declare that the San Francisco 49ers lack any deficiencies, the team remains one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. That alone is enough to place them high on media power rankings. The truth is, power rankings mean very little at this stage in the offseason. Yes, free agency has come and gone, but NFL rosters are about to undergo further changes this week, with the 2024 NFL Draft slated for Thursday. Pro Football Focus' Amelia Probst posted a power ranking based on the analytics site's data on each roster and the offseason roster moves made so far. The San Francisco 49ers came in at No. 2, behind only the Kansas City

By David Bonilla

ESPN recently conducted a mock draft involving its NFL Nation reporters, where each assumed the general manager role for the team they cover. This unique process benefits from selectors who are intimately aware of each team's needs. The San Francisco 49ers are expected to address their offensive line with the No. 31 overall pick, marking the team's first first-round selection since 2021. Nick Wagoner, acting as general manager John Lynch, had to adapt his plan based on earlier selections taking several offensive tackles off draft boards. With those options gone, Wagoner opted for former Missouri pass rusher Darius

Phillips will also meet with the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans this week. Adding a noteworthy tidbit to the social media post, Garafolo mentions, "A likely second-round pick, though some evaluators have first-round grades on
