Here’s what infuriated Jerry Rice about the 49ers’ Week 1 loss to the Cardinals

NFL icon Jerry Rice joined 95.7 The Game on Monday morning, as he does every week, and discussed the San Francisco 49ers' Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He was in attendance at Levi's Stadium on Sunday and got to witness the defeat firsthand. Rice shared some of the things he saw that infuriated him about the Niners' performance.

"I was hot yesterday," Rice said on The Morning Show. "I wanted to run down on that field. … Yesterday, to me, I really wanted a statement game. I didn't get that statement game. I'm sure the Niners felt like they didn't play like they wanted to, and they left a lot on that football field.

"But now, the true test is what are they going to do this week? Are they going to make the corrections? … If I was in there looking at the film today, I would be disgusted with myself, and I would feel like I really let the fans of the Bay Area, the fans watching it from home, I let them down."

One thing that irked Rice was watching the 49ers receivers. Only four passes between two San Francisco receivers — Kendrick Bourne and Trent Taylor — were caught during the entire game. But it wasn't just the receivers' poor statistical performances or failure to create separation that irritated the Hall of Famer.

"Something that really, really got me heated yesterday — and I'm not going to call any names or anything like that — during the break, they were playing music," Rice explained, "and we had certain guys dancing that hadn't done anything on the football field; that didn't have a reception or anything. That's not the standard of the San Francisco 49ers.

"If you want to dance, you want to be a dancer or do whatever, you shouldn't be wearing that uniform. You've got to be productive. You've got to contribute to the team. And if you can't do that, go do something else. That really just pissed me off. The Niners are not about that.

"Now, you score a touchdown, you can do whatever you want. You can dance, you can breakdance. I don't care. But if you are dancing and you haven't made a catch, or you haven't done anything on the football field, I have a problem with that."

Then, of course, you had the defense's inability to stop Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. Rice noticed something about the 49ers players that might explain why the athletic quarterback was able to do so much damage with both his arms and his legs.

"I think it was conditioning," Rice said. "I saw a shot of (Nick) Bosa walking off the field. He looked like he was about to collapse. I think it has a lot to do with those preseason games, not having any. These guys are not where they need to be right now.

"… Murray is very elusive. He's running all over the field. You've got defensive players trying to chase him, guys trying to tackle him and all that stuff. So it had a lot to do with that too. And that's something that's really tough the first game of the season because we get better as we go."

Potential 49ers defensive draft target visiting this week

By David Bonilla
Apr 14

Last week, it was reported that the San Francisco 49ers planned to host former Kentucky cornerback Andru Phillips on a pre-draft visit. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo confirms that the visit will take place during the upcoming week, which marks the final opportunity for such visits to occur. Phillips will also meet with the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans this week. Adding a noteworthy tidbit to the social media post, Garafolo mentions, "A likely second-round pick, though some evaluators have first-round grades on

49ers insider believes team may prefer WR Brandon Aiyuk play on fifth-year option

The San Francisco 49ers don't always do things like other NFL teams do. But they are consistent, for the most part. Seemingly every offseason, especially in recent years, a star player has wanted a new contract. From TE George Kittle and LB Fred Warner to WR Deebo Samuel and Edge Nick Bosa, the 49ers have given new contracts, but they have waited until late July-early August (and in Bosa's case—September) to do so, much to the chagrin of those players, who wanted their new deal sooner rather than later. It may not have happened as soon as the players wanted it to, but it has happened. Kittle's contract talks reportedly weren't as smooth as he might have hoped, Samuel famously scrubbed his social media accounts of all things 49ers, and Bosa didn't sign until a few days

Ctrl+Z: 4 key decisions 49ers might "undo" if given the chance

By Marc Adams

No one is perfect. Each of us makes mistakes. I do for sure. Peruse your way through the many articles I've written for 49ers Webzone and you'll see plenty of mistakes. Whether it's a typo or some prediction I offered that didn't go as I had thought. The San Francisco 49ers are no different. John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have made their share of mistakes. Fortunately for all of us, they hit on more than they miss. But I wonder if we were able to catch them in a moment of complete transparency if they might admit to wanting to hit the Ctrl+Z and "undo" some moves. I doubt they will admit to such mistakes anytime soon, but fear not—I'm here to do it for them. Yes, I could write on the best decisions

Justin Melo of The Draft Network reports that the San Francisco 49ers expressed interest in Jonah Laulu, meeting with the defensive lineman at Oklahoma's pro day on March 12. Melo notes that Laulu is versatile enough to play defensive end or defensive tackle on an NFL defense, making him an intriguing prospect for the 49ers, who value players who can fill multiple roles. .@OU_Football DL Jonah Laulu is versatile enough to play as a base DE or within the interior.Former Hawaii transfer, Laulu met with
