Opt-out deadline set for Thursday; no 49ers players or staff exercise option yet

The deadline to opt-out of the 2020 season is set for Thursday at 1 p.m. PT,
according to ESPN. Players can do so should they be concerned about their health or the health of their loved ones amid the coronavirus pandemic.
So far, no San Francisco 49ers players have expressed a desire to exercise the option.
"I have not had a conversation (about opting out) with any of our players," general manager John Lynch told reporters on Monday
via a video press conference. "We've talked a lot. We always feel like communication with our players is the best opportunity for success in every situation. But none of our players have intimated that that is an option that they're going to be exercising, I guess."
No members of the coaching staff have chosen to opt-out of the upcoming season, either. That is a legitimate option for them, and neither Lynch nor head coach Kyle Shanahan would blame them from doing so.
"You want everyone to know that there's no right or wrong answers," Shanahan said during the same press conference. "It's what you're comfortable with."
The 49ers are looking to rebound from a February loss in Super Bowl LIV and earn a return trip to the big game. Still, player and staff safety are paramount.
Added Shanahan: "I mean, if the doctors recommend them not to come, they wouldn't be here. The doctors have to recommend them first, and then they give those risks. Then the guys, they know there's not pressure. We'll work through it and figure out what we can do based off how they feel."

The San Francisco 49ers are set to host their local pro day this Wednesday afternoon, offering numerous draft prospects a prime opportunity to display their skills before the team's coaches, scouts, and front-office personnel.
However, it won't be just draft hopefuls on the field in Santa Clara. According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, several others, including a former third-round draft pick, quarterback Kellen Mond, will try out for the team.
Maiocco's report also names tight ends Curtis Hodges, Hunter Kampmoyer, and Tommy Sweeney among those expected to attend.

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

Draft Watch: Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley visiting 49ers on Wednesday
The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday.
Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.
