The San Francisco 49ers attempted to add a fullback to their roster. Field Yates of ESPN reports that the team put in a claim for former Kansas City Chiefs fullback John Lovett. The Green Bay Packers, however, were awarded Lovett on Thursday.
The Chiefs released Lovett on Wednesday. He was a quarterback for Princeton in college. The Chiefs signed Lovett as an undrafted free agent in 2019, converting him to a hybrid who could potentially contribute at fullback, running back, and even tight end.
Lovett landed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury after one preseason appearance with the Chiefs.
San Francisco has two fullbacks on its roster — starter
Kyle Juszczyk and rookie Josh Hokit. The team continues to seek help for All-Pro tight end
George Kittle, and has
reportedly had internal discussions about the possibility of adding veteran Delanie Walker or Jordan Reed.
