Around the NFL: What should Washington’s new team name be?

Being a San Francisco 49ers site, we don't typically report on the happenings around the rest of the NFL that don't potentially impact the Bay Area team. This story, however, has been 87 years in the making. The NFL team representing Washington, D.C., may finally drop "Redskins" from its name, which has long been viewed as offensive.
We live in a new world where awareness and compassion seem to be on the rise, and offensive icons like the Washington team name may be on the way out. The team's stadium sponsor, FedEx, this week
requested a name change.
"We have communicated to the team in Washington our request that they change the team name," FedEx said in a statement obtained by ESPN.
Frederick Smith, the chairman, CEO, and president of FedEx Corp., owns a minority stake in the team.
Nike struck next,
pulling all of Washington's team gear from its online store. PepsiCo has also been under pressure to sever ties with the team.
Money talks, and has forced Washington to finally look into taking action. The team
released the following announcement on Friday after years of pressure to change its name.
Read a statement issued by the team: "In light of recent events around our country and feedback from our community, the Washington Redskins are announcing the team will undergo a thorough review of the team's name. This review formalizes the initial discussions the team has been having with the league in recent weeks ... We believe this review can and will be conducted with the best interest of all in mind."

If the San Francisco 49ers decide to trade wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, it's likely to occur within the next four days—before or during Day 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft. General manager John Lynch addressed reporters on Monday and acknowledged the wide range of possibilities. However, he noted that any potential discussions about trading spots with other teams will likely intensify later in the week.

Silver: New 49ers intel reveals potential Brandon Aiyuk trade still in play
When asked about the possibility of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk not being on the San Francisco 49ers roster on Friday morning, general manager John Lynch responded, "I wouldn't anticipate that."
Lynch assured reporters that signing Aiyuk to a long-term extension is a priority, stating, "And our wish is that he's here and a part of the Niners for the rest of his career. We're working through that."

Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team revealed his latest mock draft, which goes seven rounds deep and projects every selection for every NFL team. While most predict that the San Francisco 49ers will add an offensive lineman with their first selection, No. 31 overall, Mosher has the Bay Area team going in a different direction.
The writer and analyst has the Niners selecting former UCLA pass rusher Laiatu Latu in the first round.
