Could
Trent Williams be campaigning for New York Jets safety Jamal Adams to join the San Francisco 49ers? The offensive tackle posted the following photo on Instagram of himself signing his restructured contract with the 49ers ... and tagged Adams (
h/t to Patrick Tulini).
It's important to note that Williams isn't signing a contract extension. The 49ers restructured the final year of his deal to give the offensive lineman, who did not play last year, some more upfront money.
"He's due to make $12.5 million,"
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said in May. "He's still going to make about that sum, but the 49ers put some of this money upfront. A little help for a guy, remember, (who) didn't make anything in 2019."
As for Adams, he is seeking to leave the Jets. He
named the 49ers among the teams to which he would welcome a trade. The Pro Bowl and All-Pro defender wants to be the highest-paid safety but has two years remaining on his rookie deal after the Jets executed his fifth-year option.
"I think it's mostly about money," Jets reporter
Rich Cimini of ESPN said this week, "but I think the losing here in New York has worn on him. He's 16-and-32 since coming to the Jets, and I think that has really taken a toll on his psyche. There were times after games last year where he just looked distraught and said, 'I'm tired of this losing.'"

49ers add potential Trent Williams successor in latest NFL.com mock draft
Trent Williams will be 36 at the start of the 2024 NFL season. While retirement isn't on his mind just yet, the San Francisco 49ers must consider a succession plan for left tackle.
NFL Media's Bucky Brooks unveiled his final mock draft, projecting the San Francisco 49ers to select former Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan with the No. 31 overall pick as their eventual replacement for Williams.
"With Trent Williams entering the twilight of his career, the 49ers have to find an eventual replacement on the edge," Brooks noted. "Morgan is a sound blocker at the point of attack with diverse skills
49ers sign WR Trent Taylor, reuniting with former draft pick
The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

Trent Taylor snatches up 49ers star receiver's old number
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be wearing No. 1 the next time he steps onto the football field, leaving behind his No. 19 jersey. It's an unfortunate change for any fan who previously invested in a Deebo jersey—unless they consider it a throwback.
Newly signed wide receiver Trent Taylor quickly claimed No. 19 after rejoining the team on a one-year deal following three seasons elsewhere. Taylor last wore No. 15 with the 49ers, a number currently worn by wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Taylor also wore No. 81 with the team.

49ers' Brandon Aiyuk seemingly celebrates news of Amon-Ra St. Brown's deal
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is in high spirits, and it's no wonder why. He's well aware that his bank account is about to get a significant boost, one way or another.
Aiyuk posted a video to Instagram, showing himself dancing and seemingly celebrating the good fortune of one of his NFL peers. The Detroit Lions recently inked their star wideout, Amon-Ra St. Brown, to a lucrative four-year, $120 million contract extension. Aiyuk eagerly awaits his own deal from the 49ers and recognizes that the news out of Detroit will only strengthen his agent, Ryan Williams' hand at the negotiating table.
