Deebo Samuel brings another dimension to the 49ers offense, says Lions coach Dan Campbell

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is busy planning for the San Francisco 49ers, his Week 1 opponent on Sunday. One of many versatile offensive weapons that Campbell and his coaching staff have to prepare for is wide receiver Deebo Samuel, a player with whom the head coach is very familiar. When Samuel entered the draft in 2019, Campbell was an assistant with the New Orleans Saints. "Well, I remember when he was coming out, I loved the player too," Campbell told reporters on Monday (h/t to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area). "I know we did when I was in New Orleans. But I think what makes him unique is his ability to carry the

Trey Lance is among the San Francisco 49ers players still dealing with an injury. The rookie quarterback suffered a chipped bone in the index finger of his throwing hand during the team's preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 29. Lance will be limited today, but head coach Kyle Shanahan hopes the rookie can get a little more work in as the team prepares for its regular-season opener against the Detroit Lions. The coach was asked if Lance can take snaps and throw the football now. He wasn't doing so during Monday's practice. "I think so," Shanahan responded. "Yeah, we'll see out there today. But yeah, he should be able to do everything. We'll see how he feels when he does it, though." Lance was later shown throwing

The San Francisco 49ers escaped with a 41-33 Week 1 victory over the Detroit Lions. However, the win came at a cost when it comes to the health of the team. Starting cornerback Jason Verrett reportedly suffered a torn ACL, ending his season. That's a devastating blow to the 49ers' pass defense. After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that the team is worried that Verrett indeed suffered a torn ACL. "It's crushing," the coach said. "I'm hoping for the best, but it's crushing. You know the bad luck he's had, and putting together these last two years, staying healthy, how good of a camp he had. We've got a lot of love for J.V. and respect him as much

'Things are slowing down for me': Jimmy Garoppolo more comfortable than ever with 49ers offense

There were two narratives presented to San Francisco 49ers fans this offseason. The first was by the team itself. Even though it was drafting a quarterback of the future in Trey Lance, Jimmy Garoppolo remained very much in the plans for 2021. The other narrative was that the 49ers sought to trade Garoppolo but couldn't find a deal that fits. The team didn't care which narrative you believed. It was just moving forward with its plan. The 49ers, after all, have become incredibly proficient at blocking the outside noise, even as the coach, general manager, and player after player are repeatedly asked about the quarterback situation. Garoppolo might tell you it's an "it-is-what-it-is kind of thing," as he often does. And he'd be correct. He refused to
