Did uncalled holding penalties help the San Francisco 49ers en route to their big offensive performance against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday? Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer seems to think so. Zimmer told reporters after his team's 34-26 loss to the 49ers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday that the 49ers were holding with frequency throughout the game and that officials weren't consistent in calling penalties. Zimmer made the comments after being asked about runs made by 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who had six carries for 66 yards and two touchdowns during the game. "I think we misaligned on that one (run). The other ones were -- these guys hold all the time, so they're grabbing us around the waist, grabbing our backs," Zimmer said. "The

Earlier this week, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said star linebacker Fred Warner would miss this weekend's game against the Seattle Seahawks. One of Warner's teammates, however, wouldn't be surprised if the linebacker tries to fight through the hamstring strain he suffered on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Warner did not practice on Thursday. However, he was out on a side field testing his hamstring while his teammates practiced. "He had his 49ers' helmet and jersey on Thursday as he tested his hamstring strain on a side field, under the supervision of trainers for the first 20 minutes

Head coach Kyle Shanahan stated this week that he's not willing to close the door on the possibility that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will return to the San Francisco 49ers in 2022. Naturally, that led to headlines stating that Garoppolo might return next season when most figured the team would transition to Trey Lance by then. Of course, that wasn't exactly what Shanahan stated. "I think there's a chance for anything," Shanahan said on Wednesday when asked about Garoppolo's future. The coach went on to reiterate that Lance is the team's future. The timeline, however, remains up in the air, especially with Garoppolo playing at an impressive level over the last

49ers QB Trey Lance finding ways to progress despite not getting any playing time

By Kirk Larrabee

Rookie quarterback Trey Lance hasn't played a significant in-game role on offense for the San Francisco 49ers in nearly two months, but that doesn't necessarily mean he hasn't been picking up valuable experience since then. Lance saw some late snaps in the 49ers' 30-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in November, but other than that he hasn't seen any playing time since starting in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo against the Cardinals on October 10. Lance suffered a knee injury in that game that put him on the sidelines for a brief time, while Garoppolo came back as the starter after an October 17 bye and has held a firm grip on that role ever since. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan made it a point to give Lance some situational looks at times earlier in the
