It was fitting Arik Armstead and Jimmie Ward signed their contract extensions on the same day given their eerily similar career arcs. They are previously disappointing first-round picks who didn't fully realize expectations until last year, when they had career-best seasons and played vital roles on the NFL's second-ranked defense.

49ers allowing Arik Armstead to leave was a 'tough' decision
By David Bonilla

Arik Armstead was the longest-tenured member of the San Francisco 49ers, joining the team as a first-round draft pick two years before head coach Kyle Shanahan's tenure began. Despite the team's efforts to retain him by negotiating a restructured contract, they ultimately released the veteran defensive lineman when no agreement was reached.
"It was real tough," Shanahan said this week about the situation. "I mean, we've been with Arik since we've been here, and I know he was here a couple of years before us, so it wasn't something we really wanted to happen. It's one of the tough things when trying to keep a team together, and just where it goes with the salary cap and stuff."

Arik Armstead: I felt 'extremely disrespected' by the 49ers

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Arik Armstead wanted to make one thing clear: He harbors no animosity toward his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, despite his recent release. However, that doesn't mean he liked how the situation played out.
The two sides had tried to work on a contract restructuring to prevent his departure but ultimately could not reach an agreement, leading to Armstead's exit.
On his podcast, "Third and Long," Armstead opened up about the situation, indicating that the offer the 49ers extended was embarrassing, especially after playing nine seasons for the organization.
"I did feel extremely disrespected," Armstead stated. "They extended an offer to me. ... Nine years of me being there. The fans deserve to know what

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand.
Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction.

According to general manager John Lynch, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward wasn't the sole player to undergo core muscle surgery this offseason. Lynch disclosed to reporters at the NFL owners meetings on Monday that All-Pro tight end George Kittle also had the procedure.
However, the silver lining is that both players are expected to be fully cleared for training camp, set to commence at the end of July.
George Kittle and Charvarius Ward both had core muscle surgery this offseason and will be back, fully cleared, for
