Jimmy Garoppolo is slated to be the Week 1 starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers when they travel to Detroit to play the Lions. However, some wonder how quickly rookie Trey Lance will get up to speed and if the No. 3 overall pick could show enough in training camp to create a difficult decision for head coach Kyle Shanahan. Ben Linsey of Pro Football Focus projected the starting lineups for all 32 NFL teams, and one of the biggest 49ers-related takeaways is that he has Garoppolo firmly situated as the team's starter, despite the analytics site stating in the past that it holds Lance in high regard and believes he will find NFL success. Lance is still a

The San Francisco 49ers will get a boost from the return of pass rusher Nick Bosa this season. The third-year player missed most of last season after suffering a torn ACL during Week 2. The 49ers' pass rush may get another boost in 2021 with the potential return of veteran Dee Ford. According to Fred Warner, it sounds like things are trending in that direction. The star linebacker joined KNBR this morning and was asked for an update on Ford. "Yeah, Dee, he's great," Warner responded. "He looks great. He's back. I've seen him plenty, and he's been working his tail off. I know the type of player that he is, and the fact that he's back healthy is going to give us a huge advantage, so I'm really excited about seeing him back." Ford appeared in just one

On Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch informed reporters that running back Jeff Wilson Jr. and safety Tarvarius Moore are being placed on the active/physical-unable-to-perform (PUP) list as the team prepares to kick off training camp. Wilson suffered a non-contact knee injury in May. Moore underwent surgery after suffering a torn Achilles during practice in June. "[Players are] going through physicals today, and if there are any additions, Kyle (Shanahan) will hit you up in the coming days," Lynch said. "But that's where we are right now." Lynch and Shanahan were asked if there were any other potential candidates that they knew of. "A couple of guys that you know had some things that we'll see on their physicals, if

Kyle Shanahan says 49ers will continue to 'be smart' with Dee Ford

Dee Ford hit the practice field with his San Francisco 49ers teammates today — the team's first practice of training camp. The veteran pass rusher didn't participate in team drills but did get some work during individual drills. Ford appeared in just one game last season before being sidelined for the remaining games due to neck and back problems. There was some concern whether or not he would even be ready for the start of the 2021 season, given the severity of the injuries. Ford reportedly looked good in today's limited work. However, the 49ers will remain cautious with his progression. "I've seen the history, and we've got to be smart with it," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after practice. "It's been a tough situation for him and
