Kyle Shanahan addresses Mike Florio's criticisms of 49ers' Super-Bowl-or-bust mentality

In June, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk created a stink over some offseason comments by Kyle Shanahan. The San Francisco 49ers head coach commented during the team's State of the Franchise event about his desire to get back to that fourth quarter in the Super Bowl and finish the job. Florio felt the comments dismissed the work it takes to get to that point and set unrealistic expectations. Except, Shanahan did note that he was well aware that the journey would not be easy, and that this season will be harder than ever. "That's why all of our guys have got to take this challenge, and we've got to take advantage of this offseason," Shanahan said in June.

Richard Sherman knows what it's like to win a Super Bowl. He also knows what it's like to lose a Super Bowl. The cornerback knew that before joining the San Francisco 49ers and relived the experience in February. Sherman feels there are valuable lessons to be learned in a Super Bowl loss, though, especially for a young and less-experienced team. He remembers a playoff loss to the Atlanta Falcons while with Seattle, and how it made his Seahawks hungrier than ever. "The next year, it was like the season couldn't start fast enough, and it couldn't go by fast enough," Sherman said during an Instagram interview with Pro Football Focus.
