49ers veteran defensive backs Jason Verrett and Jimmie Ward seem to really like what they've seen so far out of the team's defensive rookies. But while Verrett and Ward are excited about their new teammates to this point, there may come a time when they as veterans need to show the rookies some tough love. And when that time comes, Ward at least seems to be ready. Verrett and Ward were asked about cornerback and third-round pick Ambry Thomas, cornerback and fifth-round pick Deommodore Lenoir, and safety and fifth-round pick Talanoa Hufanga while speaking with team beat reporters on Wednesday. San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle was a guest today on Good Morning Football and discussed several topics of interest. Among those topics was the dynamic between the team's starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, and the rookie drafted at No. 3 overall to eventually succeed him, Trey Lance. One would think that could create an awkward situation in the quarterback room and possibly the locker room. That hasn't been the case for the 49ers, though. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is at the Sonoma Raceway today. He is the Grand Marshal of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series race and caught up with reporters following the news of the Atlanta Falcons trading wide receiver Julio Jones to the Tennessee Titans. The 49ers were likely interested, and there was a lot of speculation surrounding the potential of a Jones-Shanahan reunion.
