Several San Francisco 49ers players took part in this week's State of the Franchise event. One of the topics of conversation surrounded the possibility of a Super Bowl hangover. As tough as it is for a Super Bowl champion to claw its way back to the mountaintop, it is even tougher for the runner-up. That led general manager John Lynch to consider the team's options seriously. One of those options was Washington's disgruntled offensive tackle, Trent Williams. Of course, the 49ers didn't want Washington to know about Staley's intentions. "[Staley] allowed us to go into the draft with people not knowing [of his plan to retire]," 49ers CEO Jed York said this week during the team's virtual State of the Franchise
