ESPN names 49ers offense as NFL's best in this personnel grouping

ESPN on Monday picked the NFL's best offenses at every personnel grouping. Not only did the San Francisco 49ers run their unit in 21 personnel (2 RBs, 1 TE, 2 WRs) more than any other team, they did it the best, according to the sports site. Head coach Kyle Shanahan values his fullback, Kyle Juszczyk, and the importance of having a lead blocker opening things up in the rushing attack. ESPN ranks one 49ers defensive unit as the best in the NFL, another as one to watch

Mike Clay of ESPN continued his annual tradition of ranking each positional group for all 32 NFL teams, looking at 10 key offensive and defensive positions. During the process, he also commented on each category's best, shakiest, and "on the rise" groups, along with the ones to watch. The strength of the San Francisco 49ers defense last season — its edge rushers — came in as Clay's best in the game when compared to those from around the league.
