49ers' Deebo Samuel to Kyle Shanahan before TD run vs. Cowboys: 'Just give me the ball. I got you.'

By David Bonilla
Jan 16

Deebo Samuel has become a very confident player for the San Francisco 49ers. He is willing to do whatever it takes to get the football in his hands and make a play. Samuel is a wide receiver but lines up as a running back too. He led the 49ers with eight rushing touchdowns this season. Samuel had another rushing touchdown during Sunday's 23-17 playoff win against the Dallas Cowboys. That one was impressive, as it involved Samuel improvising on the play and turning back inside to get into the end zone. That wasn't how the play was drawn up, by the way. How did Deebo even find this hole? 😱

49ers-Cowboys: Fred Warner injured late in the game

It didn't look good for Fred Warner. The San Francisco 49ers linebacker went down in the fourth quarter and was clutching his left leg in obvious pain. It was a non-contact injury on the Cowboys drive that followed the interception thrown by quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Dallas ended up scoring on the drive. San Francisco still leads 23-17 at the time of this post. Warner played in 16 games this season, racking up 137 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, three quarterback hits, 0.5 sacks, four passes defensed, a forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries heading into this playoff game, per Pro Football Reference. Update: The 49ers announced that Warner is "questionable" to return due to an ankle

'We've got a special group': Watch Kyle Shanahan deliver his post-game speech following 49ers-Cowboys

It was a hard-fought battle, and it wasn't a pretty victory. However, in the playoffs, a win is a win, and the San Francisco 49ers escaped AT&T Stadium, knocking off the Cowboys 23-17. San Francisco led 23-7 heading into the fourth quarter, but miscues kept the home-team Cowboys in the game until the end. It took a bizarre final play, with the help of some poor play-calling from Dallas coach Mike McCarthy, to extend the 49ers' season. After the game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch went around the locker room, congratulating their players. Then the coach addressed his team. "I'm at a loss for words," Shanahan said. "I'm exhausted, and I didn't even play. I appreciate you guys so much. All the guys that went down in that

The emergence of Tom Compton fuels 49ers' dominant run game

By Alan Gaines

The forecast for Saturday's NFC Divisional Round playoff game in Green Bay is slated to be zero degrees at kickoff. The inclement weather is likely to take the "air out of the ball," thus making the game a battle of winning at the line of scrimmage. This type of game is one that the 49ers welcome because they have been dominant on both the defensive and offensive lines. The unsung hero of the 49ers' offensive line and powerful run game is tackle Tom Compton. His emergence has coincided with the 49ers re-establishing their offensive identity. To put Tom Compton's improvement in proper context, we must look back at his tenure with the 49ers. Compton was signed during the 2020 offseason and struggled during games. He notched only three starts and appeared in seven games during
