Joe Williams went into training camp eager to show what he can do after being sidelined in 2017 by an injury.Now the second-year running back has been hit with another injury, putting his time with the 49ers in jeopardy.Williams suffered a fractured rib in Saturday's exhibition game loss to the Texans in Houston and could be headed for injured reserve. He rushed for 18 yards on eight carries against the Texans and had two catches for 14 yards. He reportedly had a rough game before having to leave with the injury. He couldn't hold on to a catchable pass late in the game that was intercepted after hitting his hands and also had trouble in pass protection.Going into the game, Williams looked as if he'd get plenty of opportunities for action because of injuries to Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida the previous game. Williams needed a big night to get back in the running for a roster berth, having been passed on the depth chart by Jeremy McNichols. Trent Williams will be 36 at the start of the 2024 NFL season. While retirement isn't on his mind just yet, the San Francisco 49ers must consider a succession plan for left tackle.
NFL Media's Bucky Brooks unveiled his final mock draft, projecting the San Francisco 49ers to select former Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan with the No. 31 overall pick as their eventual replacement for Williams.

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday.
Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture.
