John Lynch says Frank Gore loves 49ers' Deebo Samuel as a running back

On Wednesday morning, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch joined KNBR. A former NFL running back and 49ers fan favorite, Frank Gore, was with Lynch in team CEO Jed York's suite this past Sunday during the team's 30-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He remains close with the York family and continues to be a big fan of his former organization. Gore was treated to watching a 79-yard, one-touchdown rushing performance from Deebo Samuel — a wide receiver. That came on just eight attempts, meaning the receiver averaged nearly 10 yards per carry. Gore believes Samuel is so impressive that the third-year wideout is good enough to be a great running back. "He loves Deebo as a running back," Lynch said. "He probably feels that if we

At the beginning of the season, who would've thought that sixth-round pick Elijah Mitchell would be the most productive 49er in the 2021 NFL Draft? After all, the Louisiana product was a late round pick, in a crowded backfield, and seen more as a pick for 2022, much like San Francisco's first-round pick Trey Lance. But, the backfield quickly turned into chaos, as Jeff Wilson Jr. injured his meniscus during an offseason workout freak accident, Trey Sermon lost his ground during training camp, and Raheem Mostert injured his knee almost immediately during San Francisco's Week 1 defeat of the Detroit Lions. All of a sudden, the sixth-round pick was thrusted into the spotlight, as he rushed for over 100 yards in his first game, which was a welcome sign for the 49ers

The 49ers defense had a resurgence last Monday Night, showing out with two interceptions, both by safety Jimmie Ward, and two sacks, en route to a primetime blowout 31-10 win over their division rivals, the Los Angeles Rams. This week, the 49ers will travel to Jacksonville to face the rebuilding Jaguars, where that defense will look to replicate their masterful performance that they showcased against the Rams. The 4-5 49ers are just 0.5 games back of a playoff spot, making this weekend's game essentially a must-win to gain traction in the playoff race, especially given the strength of their opponent. When giving his final updates on Friday for Sunday's showdown, head coach Kyle Shanahan highlighted one defensive player who's developed admirably on

Confident 49ers RB Jeff Wilson Jr. could start vs. Jaguars, discusses return from 'freak accident'

Jeff Wilson Jr. looks on track to start his first game since last season. Now a veteran in the running back room, Wilson is ready for whatever the San Francisco 49ers demand of him against the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend. "Whatever they ask [of] me," Wilson said after Friday's practice. "That's been the thing since Day 1. So whatever you're called upon, that's what you're called upon to do. So, if that was the case, that's what I'll do. If it was for me to get only a couple of carries, be a blocker, then that's what I'll do. Whatever the task is, that's what I'll do." The 49ers figured on Wilson being a key contributor in the team's rushing attack this season. However, the running back underwent surgery in May to repair a torn meniscus. The injury didn't
