Report: 49ers’ Torrey Smith unlikely to play vs. Patriots

Niners wide receiver Torrey Smith, who hasn't missed a game in his six-year career, is unlikely to play against the Patriots on Sunday, ESPN reported. Smith sustained a shoulder injury in last week's loss in Arizona, which caused him to miss two practices. Smith, who has played in 89 straight games, is on pace to record career-lows in catches and yards for the second straight season.

Each week, I present the Golden Nugget Award to a San Francisco 49ers player who had an outstanding game or managed to defy the odds. Week 4's award goes to third-year wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Trey Lance was 17-0 as a starter at North Dakota State. Before him, Easton Stick was 49-3 as a starter. Before either of them, Carson Wentz impressed pro scouts during his 20-3 collegiate run.
